agree, also from a personal point of view it makes the buyer un easy and fill like depending who phones up and on what day then that reflects the price you are quoted. Just say what you are after without trying to squeeze the extra pound out of people

Sure I am as partial to the next in doing a private deal but equally often I buy or sell to galleries. Think for a moment all the good things galleries do for both artist and customers alike.No one is denying that galleries are there to make money but to suggest that they dont care about art is just ridiculous

I would had thought that all galleries are in it for the money,. not only for money im sure, many if not all like art. I think its a valid point that people are put of from gallerys due to you knowing that they have already added a mark-up regaurdless of if the owner is a nice guy, im sure most are nice,

Its like everything that is discussed on this forum it all comes down to peoples presonal views, I wouldnt get so touchy and angry about it. Like you said buy or not its your choice. Same as if you support galleries or not, you have one opinion others have another. It is a Forum at the end of the day to express views

I agree 100%. Well except for the DJ bit as I have never had the pleasure and I also don't know if James can sing. You only have to see some of the events James and like minded galleries have arranged over the years to realize they firstly and foremost are passionate art lovers.

When I list something I dont name a price straight away in case I get a load of abuse for overpricing.
Find it easier to get a few offers, work out a fair price from said offers then put the price to the thread.
