Banksy Toxic Mary, Virgin Mary Print, by Zippy on Feb 2, 2011 23:30:03 GMT 1, James has been around from the very early days and certainly has a passion and love for the art. He has helped develope and promote a few artists and put on some great shows.
Not sure about his DJ'ing skills as he had no 'Shalamar' tunes last time i saw him play.

Banksy Toxic Mary, Virgin Mary Print, by stickitup on Feb 3, 2011 10:49:03 GMT 1, I am sure he is a nice guy and can DJ and probably even likes graffiti, what I am questioning is galleries which come on this site, buy prints at a reasonable price (given to forum members) and then stick them in their gallery or Ebay for that matter at a huge mark up. Can James say he does not do this? I don't know, but that kind of gallery mentality appears closer to a flippers than a fans and seems to be supported by not including prices. Sorry if I have spoken out of turn but to stimulate discussion perhaps James could answer and put the record straight regarding his prices and the reason for not including them. Market values are available for many of these pieces and I would be forgiven for thinking that these pieces are being sold at quite a lot higher than market value, my question is, is here a place to sell Banksy prints at a significantly higher price to Banksy fans?

It is a business.
The same happens at every business worldwide. Supermarkets buy from farmers and add on a huge mark-up Local shops buy from cash and carry and add a mark-up Builders buy from builders merchants and add a mark-up
Everyone knows it goes on, this is how businesses make money, if anyone buys from the forum, nobody is forcing the seller to accept the offer, they accept it if they are happy, what the buyer then does with it is down to them. If you don't like the prices from the galleries, look elsewhere
Simples...

Banksy Toxic Mary, Virgin Mary Print, by stickitup on Feb 3, 2011 11:34:49 GMT 1, so you agree that Galleries are - business model or not - essentially flippers, who I add appear to be frowned upon here. I am confused about the dynamic, if I buy a Banksy print from a forum member at a reasonnable price and then relist it in the for sale section for a lot higher immediately is this ok? It seems to be a massive hypocrasy as I am sure I would get flamed, yet galleries are exempt from this by what you say, the only answer is do not but from them unless you like being ripped off under the guise that they are plowing the profit back into supporting other artists and not lining their packets. Perhaps I should open a gallery

Excuse me but if you're going to pick a fight with someone I can think of many better candidates than myself. I was one of the first members of this forum in January 2006, and before that the ebay forum. In that time I have seen every day without fail one or more posts by other forum members trying to manipulate other people or the market to their own ends. I have NEVER talked up prices. Talked down prices. Bought something at a good price from another forum member then offered it straight up for sale. Discredited another forum member for my own benefit. Tried to sell something before it's even reached my front door. Hyped an artist's work for any reason other than I think it's good.
As for my business... it is a business and I have to make a profit. I have done everything off my own back and in honesty a lot of that time has been a struggle. I could have easily sold work by artists I didn't believe in and sold a lot of it. But I prefer to work with integrity and when someone buys something from me know that I have not ripped them off with substandard work. And I've never for example suddenly magicked up a dozen APs of a sold out edition.
As for selling Banksy prints on the Banksy forum to Banksy fans... much as I respect many people on this forum it is essentially an exchange and mart for street art. While I sell things at fair prices - and I can't think of many things i've sold that haven't increased in value - if you ever decide to sell anything 'cheap' to someone because they are a forum member you are very likely to see it on ebay the following week. Besides, you should find that my prices are much more reasonable than other galleries.
I very rarely offer up any work for sale on here, but I decided to make an exception as I had recently been approached by three different customers who wanted me to sell some rare Banksy prints for them. Since this is a Banksy forum and these prints are hard to find I thought I would make people aware that they are available. If you want to go and find them cheaper or from an alternative source then please go ahead. But I spent a month looking for a signed Love is in the Air recently with no luck whatsoever.
Basically I don't understand what your problem is. If your problem is with people selling art then I think you are in the wrong place. If your problem is with me specifically then I would like to know what exactly i've done so that I can address it.

Banksy Toxic Mary, Virgin Mary Print, by stickitup on Feb 3, 2011 11:55:48 GMT 1, Thank you Prescription - James, I appreciate your time to write a well written and considered response, it answers many questions and puts into perspective your position which seems to be honest and until now open to question for some of the reasons I outlined above. Having never met you or read anything about you and your methods, perhaps I was too quick to write you into the Andipa or Brandler school of galleries and for that I apologise. A problem I do have which perhaps you could address is your lack of Shalamar tunes when you DJ.

Banksy Toxic Mary, Virgin Mary Print, by Deleted on Feb 12, 2011 20:47:56 GMT 1, Evening all.
I've had to take this off the wall as the missus has put her foot down. We've just had our first child (a baby girl), so I guess it's understandable. And despite my attempts to explain the meaning behind the image, she's adamant that it has to go.
Rather than put it in storage for the next 10 years, I'm keen to sell it to someone who can appreciate it on their walls and either give me enough money to buy something else or trade me something that can take it's place (ideally another Banksy but I'm also a big fan of Julian Opie and Stella Vine).
I bought this from Santa's Ghetto a few years back and have the original till receipt, but will happily get a coa from POW as part of any deal.
Feel free to pm me cash or trade offers.
Thanks for looking.
