A very fair question. It is probably the case that my reference to the "scene" (from where Poptone got its name) could have been better phrased given its ambiguity.
The intention was to make some kind of distinction between:
(i) the Sex Pistols era; and
(ii) the period following the break-up of the band and overdose of cartoon-junkie-punk, Sid Vicious.
That latter period was one of greater maturity and experimentation (perhaps also jadedness), during which multiple disparate and less-united music and cultural scenes arose. It was the dawn of new wave, no wave, post-punk, cold wave / dark wave / goth, and hardcore.
