Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by highflyer on Jun 13, 2017 17:42:07 GMT 1, Still no refund from them. The customer service is dire. I would be very careful about booking unless you are 100% confident you can go.
Same for me. Took 3 weeks and numerous phone calls to get my money back. They said it was my banks fault hahaha. Monkeys

Do make an effort to go if you can. Just incredible. Best thing he has done imo.

how to upload images this is painted opposite the hotel reception, not sure if it refers to Brexit or making life difficult for herself or something else.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by hnkpnk on Jun 13, 2017 21:47:13 GMT 1, There's two more not far from the hotel:
The sofa from 2007 is to the north along the wall to the left of the checkpoint (inside a parking lot I think):
And the girl frisking a soldier (one of two, the other ended up in the hands of Kezler) is to the south and nowadays inside a Banksy souvenir shop:

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Lroy on Jun 14, 2017 6:48:44 GMT 1, One taxi driver I had pulled out a laminated piece of paper with Banksy pieces on it he was willing to drive me to... I got him to take me to LIITA and the Stop and Search (had to buy a magnet off a kid in the shop to take a photo of it). He was a lovely bloke, but there was some poetic licensing going on with what he considered to be Banksy and he was in the "not sure I like the Walled Off" camp. Tourists spending money in a lavish hotel was not helping the locals in his view. A couple of my photos - including a t-shirt I hadn't seen before.
Great pics ! Thanks for posting. ! When they will put in sale these tees ? They are blooody awesome !!

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by tobomoore on Jun 14, 2017 18:04:41 GMT 1, Hi. I'm going to the Walled Off end of next week and would be grateful for some advice from those who have already visited. We are there for three days and only staying at Walled off. obviously I'm concerned what to say when going through Ben Gurien airport. Any advice?
I received an email from East Wind Tourz re the transfer we booked which offered “assistance” at the airport for $50 inbound and $65 departure. Anybody use this and is it a good idea to have? would it save a lot of hassle at the airport? Why is it more for departure? Is there greater hassle on leaving?
Also they are offering tours, but we booked tours when booking the hotel. What do the hotel tours encompass? Is it just Bethlehem, or is Jerusalem included?
Any other advice for the trip would be gratefully received.
Thank you

There is a bit of chew arriving and departing but not that much, its far easier than the last time i went to NYC !
At passport control just say you are visiting tel aviv and jerusalem and they'll let you through, they did us anyhow, not really interested but mibbe we got lucky. They never asked for hotel details or who we were staying with.
On departure u have to go through another level of security before check in and they asked who we were, how we were connected, i was with wife and daughters, did we pack luggage ourselves, are we carrying anything we shouldnt etc etc. Funny enough my kids had just spray painted the wall outside the hotel and wrapped up their freshly painted stencils stinking of paint and put them in the suitcase so we would have had some fun explaining these away to security 😀
Its not worth paying the tour company any money to save hassle.
If this is the hotel transfer company that is picking u up then they'll take you through bethlehem checkpoint no hassles.
The hotel tours are not really tourist tours but worth doing. One is a two hour walking tour near the hotel and takes you to Aida refugee camp and the other is a 4 hour minibus tour through east and west jerusalem, both are very worthwhile tours, not to be missed as far as im concerned. You'll do a wee bit of walking on the bus tour.
Plenty places for food and drink near hotel and moreso in bethlehem centre. Ramadan still ongoing so worth being in Manger Square around 9pm if you have never witnessed the Quran being recited by hundreds of worshippers in a carpark. Quite surreal to see this happening adjacent to one of the most important christian landmarks in a land that is pretty much controlled by a Jewish government.
We were only there for two days and crammed lots in but wished we'd gone to the Dead Sea because its not that far from bethlehem. I wouldnt book a tour company but use a local taxi driver who'll take you to all the sites for far less, i can give you the number of the top guy that drove us about on sunday and he was a great tour guide as well as a real character. Pm me if u want the number.
I must admit i had some safety concerns as our teenage twin daughters came along but we never felt unsafe whatsoever, no security issues at all.
Enjoy ur trip !

Israeli Shekels are probably more common, took both with me but mainly used Shekels, but they do need to be ordered in advance from any bureau de change. Regarding airport security, I guess it is pot luck! I was concerned about it but went through without any question! No welcome either! Airport transfer is definitely a good choice, saving you lots of time! We stayed 4 nights but managed to see quite a bit around, ask any recommendation for restaurant and bars at the reception, they are very helpful. Best trip in a while for us, enjoy!

I took dollars and shekels, best rate was travelex online and collected at airport on departure. Everywhere takes both currencys.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by JW on Jun 14, 2017 20:36:27 GMT 1, Repeating what others have said here, but they're spot on.
Take Shekels. One taxi said he'd take USD, EUR or GBP. But take Shekels and make sure you have smaller notes if possible (for tipping here and there).
I was travelling with my fiancé and had no issues whatsoever at Ben Gurion - to my surprise. Being a couple definitely helps. On the way in, they asked: "What flight did you come in on? Where are you staying? (we had a night in Tel Aviv and were visiting a friend). How long are you staying?" Straight through. Don't book the "extra help" - they can't help you with security. We met a lone male traveller that had booked his one-way flight 2 days prior, and told them he was visiting the West Bank. They held him for 10 hours... we were through in 5 minutes.
We booked hotel transfers via the website and it was definitely worth it. Straight through the checkpoint and past the queue. We arrived at the hotel super early, around 8am. We had the Presidential Suite for the first night, and they were kind enough to let us in early. Totally unexpected, and really generous of them.
The tours through the hotel are basically anti-sightseeing tours, more educational and absolutely worth it. If you're after an unbiased opinion, you'll be disappointed.
Food options: Afteem near Manger Square - for a quick Falafel etc. Though David Cameron ate there if that's a problem for you. Abu Eli & Limoncello - both recommended by the hotel and I enjoyed them both. I am easy to please though. They were both really quiet given Ramadan. Breakfast is included at the hotel. Granola, eggs etc. Coffee was actually good too.
If you're looking to travel back to Tel-Aviv on a Friday, beware of Shabbat. The checkpoints become really congested after 10am and cabbies are scarce. Pre-book a transfer through the hotel and make sure you leave before 10am.
Ben Gurion on the way out was also surprisingly easy for us. Our flight was at 7:45am, so going on advice we turned up almost 3 hours before that. We were initially asked: How long we have you been together? Do you live together? Did you pack your own bags? Do you know anyone in Israel? They then told us to wait while they got their supervisor over. We had some friendly chat about Australia in the meantime. The supervisor turned up and asked the same questions (apologising in advance for doing so). He also asked how many previous trips we had been on together. We rattled off a number of countries, he thanked us, said something to the others and then we had a passport security sticker starting with the number 2 applied. Google the 1-6 threat level scale they use for interest. Basically we couldn't have been less threatening. I've found US airports to be much worse recently.
If you get a chance to stay in Tel-Aviv, do it. It was a proper eye-opener for me, and more like any liberal European city you've been to but with extra buzz. We were there the same day as the gay pride parade, and everyone was out drinking in bars on the street. Rainbow flags waving outside. The food was great. I wish we'd stayed longer.
At no point did I feel worried or unsafe. Yes, we did it the "wealthy westerner way" in some respects but we didn't stay cooped up in the hotel. As a result it was one of the more fascinating trips I've ever been on.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by pippyt75 on Jun 19, 2017 17:05:34 GMT 1, Hi there Going to the walled off soon and can't wait! Quick question though. Would you say it's essential to lie about your destination? People have said to say you're staying in Tel Aviv instead when going through customs. Is that right from your experience? And if you do lie then do they ask for evidence to back it up? Thanks - will post some photos if I get some good ones. Cheers

100% lie, I even booked a cheap hotel in tel aviv which I'm glad I did as they asked for my hotel confirmation.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Fifth Wall on Jun 20, 2017 13:36:07 GMT 1, I didn't want to lie, think it's a slippery slope, makes you look guilty of something. I had a night booked in Tel Aviv anyway so I lead with that, they did ask to see a reservation though, even though my dates were much later in the week they didn't seem to mind.
Security is notoriously tight, sometimes you get lucky, others they will go in. Make sure you leave plenty of time on the way back out.
Also figured I should plug the video in case you missed it
Enjoy the trip and definitely do the tours!!

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by pippyt75 on Jun 21, 2017 8:47:01 GMT 1, I didn't want to lie, think it's a slippery slope, makes you look guilty of something. Also figured I should plug the video in case you missed it Enjoy the trip and definitely do the tours!! . Really excellent video and thanks for the advice!

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by tobomoore on Jun 21, 2017 20:53:17 GMT 1, Thank you for all the answers to previous questions, but still confused about what to say/not to say on entry. I am travelling with my friend, both guys in our 50s, and have only booked rooms at The Walled-off. So have transfer straight from airport to there. Email correspondence from hotel says not to take printed copy of reservation in luggage. So if asked where we are staying, what do we say, and what do we do if they ask to see a copy of the reservation? This is the only part of this trip that is worrying me (going Saturday). As before, all advice/experiences welcome.

Just say you haven't booked yet. Going in is easy. You'll be fine. It's perfectly fine to go to the West Bank anyway. Obviously you don't want any delays. Just say you are staying in Jerusalem.

Dont stress, getting out is the problem :-)
The guy at passport control when we were leaving asked me an odd question, How many siblings did I have?while he had my passport and was looking at his PC terminal, I answered by asking him what this had to do with him? and he replied by saying it depended what my answer was, my answer was it had nothing to do with him and he let us through.

At the security check before airline check in they asked how me my wife and kids were related and asked the kids directly.
Top tip - when heading to passport control go to the biometric passport machines, if u have a biometric passport obviously, and you avoid speaking to any nosey passport control blokes. These machines give you the wee ticket you need to get through the next gates.
