Brexit, by rebate on Jul 8, 2019 18:14:36 GMT 1, Nothing wrong with changing your mind when circumstances change, right? That’s why I assume you’ll be in favour of a second referendum too. I'd f**kinglove a second referendum , EVEN MORE BRITS would vote leave yeah right. The one thing that could justify their possition, and they are 100% against it. Bullshit.
They cant win, so we cant vote.

No doubt the pound is fucked but not as fucked as Spain Italy Portugal not to mention the French human rights protests look. As long as we are capitalist societies the average joe on the street is fucked. If we keep breeding people with no ability or understanding to effect change and that we enjoy media outlets such as TV radio social media controlled by government we can only blame ourselves. Why has none invented social media of the people? Independent and free.

It will benefit few and hurt many many more. Then we have Brexit and WTO rules/external tariffs to look forward to.
Every government impact assessment says the majority of us are going to be a lot worse off.

How will it hurt many? It'll hurt those that choose to go on holiday to places with stronger currencies. That's about it
Every government assessment has been wrong so far, I'll keep an open mind

That's about it Every government assessment has been wrong so far, I'll keep an open mind With the greatest respect, I would suggest that you put your open mind to good use, do a bit of reading, and try to get a basic grasp of economics. To suggest that exchange rates only have an impact (positive or negative) when going on holiday is frankly ludicrous. I have more than a basic grasp of the subject thanks very much. Go on then oh wise one, explain to me how the current cable rate matters to the average person? A pound is a pound.

Brexit, by Fast Eddie on Jul 23, 2019 22:29:28 GMT 1, In case of further depreciation of GBP against USD or EUR, all UK exports will be cheaper, all imports more expensive. Depending on which tariff regime gets implemented then, that is also going affect the trade balance further. Obviously the UK economy did not go up in flames over a year, but as of now negative indicators have all turned on alert for the UK economy. For example, productivity growth was really bad in 2018 and 2019 Q2 GDP growth is probably negative.
So, if you, UK friends, do not change direction rather swiftly and maybe revert to your usual, rational selves, you won't be in a good spot.

Brexit, by Deleted on Jul 23, 2019 23:40:00 GMT 1, I have more than a basic grasp of the subject thanks very much. Go on then oh wise one, explain to me how the current cable rate matters to the average person? A pound is a pound. A pound is a pound. Brexit means Brexit. Both are great slogans - they don't really mean anything, but they're pretty catchy. Maybe we could get t-shirts made. Or hats. Perhaps the average person buys things from time to time - food, electrical items, clothes. And perhaps some of these things come from overseas, and the price of those things are now noticeably more expensive. Or perhaps they're finding that even locally made items are now more expensive because the manufacturer can be more profitable by selling items overseas and isn't motivated to sell locally, or because items that the manufacturer imports are costing them more. These things matter to the average person. As inflation increases, perhaps interest rates will rise more quickly than they otherwise would. Perhaps the average person has savings and will enjoy the increased return. Perhaps the average person has debts and will suffer hardship through higher repayments. These things matter. Perhaps the average person has a job. Perhaps their employer is an exporter of goods or services, and the weak pound is helping them to be more competitive in a global marketplace, helping their business to boom, allowing this average person to enjoy a higher salary or increased job security. Or perhaps their employer imports goods or services and the weak pound is making things difficult for them, leading to stagnant wages and redundancies. Perhaps this average person works in the tourism industry and is enjoying a boom caused by an increase in foreign visitors who can now spend money here more cheaply, and an increase in those vacationing at home because they can't afford to travel abroad. This all matters to the average person. Perhaps the average person wants to live in a house or flat and may be surprised to discover that the currency markets may have had an impact on how much it will cost them to do that. Perhaps in some areas house prices and competition will be increased because UK property is now more attractive to investors with foreign money, despite the stamp duty penalties. Or perhaps prices will slide due to static wages, tightened budgets and increased inflation, all partly caused by a weak pound. This matters to the average person. Maybe the average person has a car and wants to put petrol in it. Maybe the average person wants to buy art and is finding that art from overseas is now more expensive for them. And on and on. I can't profess to be an expert, and note that I'm not declaring that and or all of these scenarios have happened or will happen. But they're all very real examples of how an average person's life may be affected by fluctuations in their currency (for better or worse), even if they never dare to dream of a foreign holiday. These are all relatively simple concepts. but none of them are particularly catchy, and none of them will fit on a t-shirt I'm afraid. But suggesting that the weak pound has no impact to anyone unless they choose to go abroad on holiday does your knowledge of the subject a disservice, and statements like ' A pound is a pound' suggest that perhaps your mind isn't as open as you initially suggested. And with that, I'm going for a leisurely poo then to bed. Night all!
That's a lot of words to say there may be inflation. Proving me correct that some people will win and some people will lose. As wages are also growing, so for the vast majority they see no impact at all, as I said. One thing you got right was the bit about you not being an expert.
I do have every sympathy with the hypothetical man who now finds his overseas art more expensive though lol
