NEW YORK Framers โข Who do you Recommend?, by maxs13 on Nov 30, 2017 22:17:04 GMT 1, Hi all,
In need of some advice.
Commissioned a "Fracture" piece by John Doe about 6 months ago. It's on canvas and about 16 in x 40 in.
I think it would look awesome in a simple box frame but not sure how to go about that. Has anyone in the US (preferably NYC) ever had experience ordering a frame for a canvas like this?
Thanks in advance for all the wisdom!

I have ordered a lot of frames from metroframe.com and they make some really nice Floater Frames. I work in a Museum have ordered a majority of the frames I use from Mertropolitan Frames. They do top quality work. Also I'm U.S. based.

NEW YORK Framers โข Who do you Recommend?, by dani on Dec 17, 2017 6:37:42 GMT 1, I have a random framing question. I recently had something framed, and when I went to pick up the piece, I noticed that the width of the mat was only 1.75 inches, even though it was supposed to be 2. (I'm sure some people will ridicule me for getting worked up over a .25 inch difference, but I think it's noticeable.)
I pointed this out to them, and they said that the mat was in fact 2 inches wide, but that only 1.75 inches was visible because it was partially covered by the inside lip of the frame. I think it's pretty obvious that when you ask for the mat to be a certain width you're referring to the visible part (who takes into account the depth of the inside lip?), but I wanted to see what other people think. Honest misunderstanding, or them trying to cover up a mistake?

Personally I think if you ask for a 2 inch mat then I would expect a two inch mat cut. If you asked for two inches of mat on show there should be two inches on show.

Chalk it up to an honest mistake, give some benefit of doubt and beware of next time if you return.

My experience with them was great otherwise, so I'm wondering if (and actually hoping) it was just an honest misunderstanding.

NEW YORK Framers โข Who do you Recommend?, by 11 on Dec 17, 2017 17:52:13 GMT 1, I dont think they would have ripped you off for .25 of an inch - it sounds to me like a misunderstanding - you asked and got a 2โ mount when you actually wanted 2.25. Maybe they should have checked what visible mount you want to see, maybe they assumed you knew what you were doing as you were a previous customer.
Seems like it it was a small detail that got lost in translation - I take it that it that mount sits around the print in the place you wanted it so to make up that extra .25 the outer dimensions will have to change meaning a reframe?
Yoy could argue the toss with your framer but then neither of you are likely to want to do future business, or you can accept that next time thatโs one point you will be more specific on
I have had something framed before where the outer dimensions clearly werenโt adhered to and got a significant discount but it was clear where the mistake lay.
I think this has been a genuine misunderstanding
