Forum Auctions β’ Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by Deleted on Jan 30, 2019 17:33:42 GMT 1, Fully agree. Also had issues with Artsy - Item estimate was at 7-12k - put in a max absentee bid of 10500 well ahead of the auction. - there was no other online bidding ahead of the auction (price stayed at 7000 with one bid which was mine) - was able to catch the auction online, and saw that they opened with my max bid !! - when I asked why they had done this I was informed they had forgotten to tell me this was the reserve... I was happy to pay 10500 so proceeded with the purchase, but they are clearly closer to fraud than lack of professionalism as far as I am concerned. EDIT : to be crystal clear this was a comment on ARTSY NOT FORUM AUCTIONS. I bid through Artsy on an auction in the US and was not informed of a reserve that was not mentioned when I put in my max bid was in, and interestingly happened to be my exactly max bid, which they opened with dΓ©spite a much lower estimate. They always say on bargain hunt, that you cant set a reserve over the low estimate. Seems really sketchy that they have pulled this stunt. That is my understanding too. The reserve price should NEVER be above the low estimate if you are dealing with a legitimate auction house. Name and shame!

Forum Auctions β’ Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by sircoxson on Jan 30, 2019 17:44:19 GMT 1, Never take the art when they offer it the next day as most of the time its the house bidding against you.Β If they come back the next day make them an offer below your high bid. Most of the time they will take it This was exactly my guess. Thank you for the confirmation. I forgot to mention that I βsuccessfullyβ bought a signed Banksy HMV print in January at a gallery in the UK, which was destroyed on the way from the seller to the gallery. The full amount was returned, but it seems that I should better collect watches or carsΒ
I have a vintage rolex explorer, ref 1016, tropical gilt dial, I might let go. to show you a great option...π

Seems really sketchy that they have pulled this stunt. That's the point they didn't, Artsy is just one of many bidders participating in the sale, there may not have been other bidders on artsy but clearly there were bids either in the auctioneers book, or from other online platforms. Op says no other bids. I get your point though, maybe just not on artsy. The whole thing just creates a lack of trust, but thats not my problem its for the auction houses to worry about rep. Its always seemed pretty sketchy to me anyway, id sell but not buy from auction unless something was an obvious bargain of course.

Forum Auctions β’ Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by sfnyc on Jan 31, 2019 0:04:23 GMT 1, Having been going and participating in auctions for the past 20 years, in the old school days whenever someone leaves an absentee bid, bidding always began at the higher absentee bid. And needless to mention about in room ghost bids, where auctioneers push prices higher announcing fake bids from the back of the room behind the main bidder... the oldest move in the game. The biggest house I saw do this was Artcurial in Paris, but could name many more (smaller)... , and rarely saw bidders fight back (only once, someone yelled his top bid again below the supposedly higher bid and lot closed but the winning bid went to the real bidder while auctioneer moved quickly to next lot). So auction houses will play dirty on you, they always have. Calling them out may or may not lead to much here but in their face it is very effective. Always assume that they ll push prices higher on you with any tricks or opportunity you give them...

Forum Auctions β’ Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by Deleted on Apr 25, 2019 16:30:07 GMT 1, Yes. Hammer price was 550. Plus 30% BP = 715 I still think that's good value for a print run of just 50 from an important artist. Some people have just spent 4K on a poorly painted Pink Panther print.
