Grenfall Tower Block Fire, by bwilson on Jun 19, 2017 10:24:17 GMT 1, Curiosity got the better of me so I pulled a small piece of cladding off that I could reach from our balcony. Underneath the cladding the whole block is covered with polystyrene sheets, I removed some of the polystyrene and lit it with a lighter needless to say it was extremely flammable.

Someone should be jailed for these obvious breaches of health and safety, and building regulations. I've been highly suspicious for a while as to why so many blocks have been covered with this stuff, after seeing them do it to Archway Tower.
Why cover a building that only a month prior they were promoting as a great example of brutalist architecture!? Someone's getting paid.

Grenfall Tower Block Fire, by mojo on Jun 19, 2017 13:43:31 GMT 1, Tory 'landlord' MP's rejected the legislation
With absolute respect, I believe this issue goes way beyond the unsafe cladding used for social housing, schools, hospitals et el. This is a dangerous and sickening government attitude problem that primarily values money and wealth over all of our health and safety. I have lived in both social and private rented accommodation and believe you me I lived in fear for almost a year while I rented a tiny flat privately from a multi millionaire landlord that was quite literally a death trap. Had there of been a fire within the property there would of been absolutely no way of escaping through the tiny window, no fire alarms or sprinklers in place, dodgy plumbing and exposed electrical wires. I felt awful for the young women that purchased it for ยฃ250,000 after I was told to get out with just 4 weeks notice when he decided to sell up. While looking for alternative accommodation I encountered endless rentals that were in a far worse state. So how are we expected to keep ourselves safe, regardless of being mortgaged, social or private tenants without effective legislation that is actually held to account? I'm aware that when you buy a property surveys are necessary for the bankers to 'lend' you the money although in my own experience that didn't stop my bathroom collapsing through to my neighbours living room as the wrong type of wood had been used and hadn't been identified in the survey I had paid for. edit...this was years ago I have since spectacularly fallen off the property ladder! Surely we all should be protected by strict and enforceable laws against 'get rich quick' greedy property developers and landlords? Stay Safe One & All

Grenfall Tower Block Fire, by Deleted on Jun 19, 2017 13:46:53 GMT 1, I don't think it's a good idea to film oneself setting fire to part of the cladding that has been removed for obvious reasons.
I do however think it is a good idea to start removing the cladding panels with a crowbar etc. Ripping the panel off the wall and contacting the press and filming oneself doing that. Take action, start a revolution.
People have the right to protect themselves and I cannot see anyone being prosecuted for removing these illegaly fitted panels.
It's easy to contact the UK papers. Their contact email address and phone numbers are all on their websites home pages.

One could test a bit in private, to see if it is flammable. I would hazard a guess that all of the tower blocks in the borough have the same cladding. My thoughts on setting fire to a bit of cladding and doing it publicly is that the police could look upon it as arson and all that.
Removing the cladding with a crowbar and dumping it outside the council office. I doubt would be prosecutable.
The council needs shaming and exposing.
I don't know about this particular council but I have had first hand experience of local council corruption hand in glove with a private company and i'm sure it goes on throughout the UK at times, specially regarding building and planning departments.

It would be arson if you tried setting fire to it in situ, but a broken off chunk in a metal bucket wouldn't be illegal. They even did a test on the BBC News with a chunk of the insulation from Grenfall.

Grenfall Tower Block Fire, by mojo on Jun 19, 2017 15:32:08 GMT 1, The cruel irony is that if bwilson was to remove this dangerous material from the exterior of his home he would ultimately run the risk of being prosecuted/fined/jailed by the very people that put the nasty stuff there in the first place. Under the circumstances this may sound unlikely however worth baring in mind that the world is going crazy right now and is being run as a kakistocracy. I really think the best thing to do is to call/write/protest/make noise to your local MP and press and do all you can to stay safe within your home. I genuinely hope your situation is rectified in the quickest time possible and totally empathise with your concerns.

Grenfall Tower Block Fire, by Deleted on Jun 20, 2017 19:34:01 GMT 1,
I managed to watch panorama on youtube.
After watching I can understand why the residents were angry with May.
It wouldn't surprise me if the official investigation becomes a whitewash.
With council surveyor and others responsible refusing to answer questions or saying they did not know what type of cladding was used.
One thing that should not be overlooked is the dioxins and toxic waste from the different types of plastic and foam used in the panels plus from plastics, pvc etc inside the building that were all urned releasing dioxins and toxins into the local vicinity. There will be health effects from this too over the years.

Thanks for posting this, I missed it last night.
Its fantastic to see the community pulling together, while those who may have some responsibilty seem to avoid everything.

Grenfall Tower Block Fire, by mojo on Jun 21, 2017 0:33:40 GMT 1, 2009 - Lakanal House tower block catches fire killing 6 people. The local authority is prosecuted for lapses in fire safety. A review is promised by the Labour government after pressure from the Fire Protection Association (FPA). 2010 - Building Regulations Act is published, including provisions for fire safety. Conservatives win election, a review is promised by the new government after more pressure from the FPA and warnings that the BR act does not go far enough. 2013 - Boris Johnson overrules the ruling body of the London Fire Brigade and uses legal action to inflict ยฃ29m in cuts. Closing 10 fire stations, cutting firefighters by 552, losing 14 fire engines and cutting minimum staffing levels from 5 to 4. By the time he steps down as Mayor of London he inflicts a further ยฃ100m in cuts to ยฃ130m total and the loss of 7000 firefighters. Fire prevention measures carried out by the service drop by over 25%. When challenged by a committee on fire safety on how cutting the fire service would not increase deaths, Boris replies "get stuffed". 2013 - All Party Parliamentary Group on Fire Safety and Rescue produces a report strongly recommending installation of fire suppression systems and sprinklers in 4000 tower blocks throughout Britain. The Grenfell residents action group publishes a report warning that their landlord is putting their safety at risk by restricting the access ways to their car park. They are ignored by their landlord. 2013 - 2016 Conservative housing ministers sit on All Party report without action, promising they are "looking at it", including housing minister Gavin Barwell. 2015 โ Philip Davies filibustered the Human Habitation Bill which would have increased landlords liability for the safety of their tenants. 2016 - Conservatives vote against a Labour motion to make sure all landlords and housing associations ensure residences are fit for human occupation, including provisions for fire safety. The motion is denied by 312 votes to 219. 72 of the MP's voting against are landlords. The Grenfell residents action group publish a report warning people will die in a fire before the landlord takes notice of their poor fire safety provisions. They are ignored by their landlord. 2017 - Ex housing minister Gavin Barwell becomes Prime Minister Theresa May's chief of staff. He never actions the All Party Parliamentary report recommendations. Grenfell Tower is reduced to rubble with the deaths of at least 80 residents as a fire spreads through the building in 4 minutes. It has no fire suppression system or sprinklers. The stairwell is not adequate for a full building evacuation. The emergency lighting is missing from half of the floors. The fire service struggle to reach the building due to previous car park modifications causing access issues as warned by the resident action group in 2013. The death toll could rise to well over a 200.

The death toll could rise to well over a 200. www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/theresa-may-savoy_uk_59493a8ce4b07499199ed1a6Theresa May Schmoozes Tory Donors While Grenfell Tower Residents Face Homelessness
