Curiosity got the better of me so I pulled a small piece of cladding off that I could reach from our balcony. Underneath the cladding the whole block is covered with polystyrene sheets, I removed some of the polystyrene and lit it with a lighter needless to say it was extremely flammable.

Definitely not right, all to save a few quid. Like I said our whole block is covered with this stuff, I pulled a chunk of the polystyrene off this morning and lit it the whole thing went up very fast with lots of thick black smoke!

And of course those who laid it will win the bid to remove it !

I don't think it's a good idea to film oneself setting fire to part of the cladding that has been removed for obvious reasons.

I do however think it is a good idea to start removing the cladding panels with a crowbar etc. Ripping the panel off the wall and contacting the press and filming oneself doing that. Take action, start a revolution.

People have the right to protect themselves and I cannot see anyone being prosecuted for removing these illegaly fitted panels.

Very true.

 One could test a bit in private, to see if it is flammable. I would hazard a guess that all of the tower blocks in the borough have the same cladding.  My thoughts on setting fire to a bit of cladding and doing it publicly is that the police could look upon it as arson and all that.

  Removing the cladding with a crowbar and dumping it outside the council office. I doubt would be prosecutable.

The council needs shaming and exposing.

  I don't know about this particular council but I have had first hand experience of local council corruption hand in glove with a private company and i'm sure it goes on throughout the UK at times, specially regarding building and planning departments.

  

The cruel irony is that if bwilson was to remove this dangerous material from the exterior of his home he would ultimately run the risk of being prosecuted/fined/jailed by the very people that put the nasty stuff there in the first place. Under the circumstances this may sound unlikely however worth baring in mind that the world is going crazy right now and is being run as a kakistocracy. I really think the best thing to do is to call/write/protest/make noise to your local MP and press and do all you can to stay safe within your home.
I genuinely hope your situation is rectified in the quickest time possible and totally empathise with your concerns.

you might well be right about the first part, but your dam sure wrong about withholding rent! While morally too fucking, right. Sadly they would be thrown out. 

Celotex and Kingspan are widely used as insulation but are normally encased under cement screeds, behind plasterboard or walls.

They got the fire out in the original location?

2013 - Boris Johnson overrules the ruling body of the London Fire Brigade and uses legal action to inflict £29m in cuts. Closing 10 fire stations, cutting firefighters by 552, losing 14 fire engines and cutting minimum staffing levels from 5 to 4. By the time he steps down as Mayor of London he inflicts a further £100m in cuts to £130m total and the loss of 7000 firefighters. Fire prevention measures carried out by the service drop by over 25%. When challenged by a committee on fire safety on how cutting the fire service would not increase deaths, Boris replies "get stuffed".

2015 – Philip Davies filibustered the Human Habitation Bill which would have increased landlords liability for the safety of their tenants.
2016 - Conservatives vote against a Labour motion to make sure all landlords and housing associations ensure residences are fit for human occupation, including provisions for fire safety. The motion is denied by 312 votes to 219. 72 of the MP's voting against are landlords. The Grenfell residents action group publish a report warning people will die in a fire before the landlord takes notice of their poor fire safety provisions. They are ignored by their landlord.
2017 - Ex housing minister Gavin Barwell becomes Prime Minister Theresa May's chief of staff. He never actions the All Party Parliamentary report recommendations. Grenfell Tower is reduced to rubble with the deaths of at least 80 residents as a fire spreads through the building in 4 minutes. It has no fire suppression system or sprinklers. The stairwell is not adequate for a full building evacuation. The emergency lighting is missing from half of the floors. The fire service struggle to reach the building due to previous car park modifications causing access issues as warned by the resident action group in 2013.
The death toll could rise to well over a 200.
