i used to live in Brighton for a while in my early 20's. When asking people which decent club nights there are. You don't asked what kind of music your into. I like Brighton/Hove. Hope you have a goood time.

Going to Brighton for the first time this weekend, can people give me a rundown of street art and galleries to visit?
Other suggestions welcome too.

Give me a minute and i will grab you some street names. Hope you have a smart phone to direct you though!

Oh and just mooch around the lanes and go down the little camera free alleyways, they always get some attention.

Lots of very good graffiti in Brighton, with the Heavy Artillery crew responsible for much of the best stuff. Indeed, I think its fair to say that graff (although, much of it legal) rather than street art dominates the scene in Brighton. Well worth checking out Kensington Street, which runs parallel to Kensington Gardens in the North Laines. The North Laines is the area with all the independent retailers (boutiques, record shops, cafes, etc), so you'll probably want to have a wander around there anyway. Most of Brighton's classic Banksy's have now gone unfortunately or been re-painted (e.g. Kissing coppers, which apparently isn't the original anymore).

In terms of street art galleries/shops, check out the usual suspects - No Walls (on Prince Albert Street), ink-d (on North Road - 2 minutes from Kensington Street) and Art Republic (on Bond Street).

Central Brighton is small and it's easy to walk pretty much everywhere.

If you need any restaurant, bar or club tips or other general sight-seeing or shopping, let me know what type of stuff and I'll give you some tips.

Hi all I am off to Brighton for a long weekend, weather looks set to be nice. I have not been for such a long time and have lost touch of places to visit.

Does anyone have any recommendations for galleries/shops/restaurants any information on exciting things happen this weekend would be helpful.

As Ambo says, in terms of food, what type of food do you like and rough budget? My personal restaurant favourites include: La Choza, 24 St George's, the chilli pickle, giggling squid, gingerman, meat liquor, food for friends, terre a terre, and riddle and Finns.

In addition to inkd and art republic, there is of course Prescription Art (who regularly contributes here) and No Walls (although I don't think the new gallery is open yet).

Lots of fantastic Graff in Brighton. The Heavy Artillery crew really are amongst the best writers in the country IMO, and have walls all over town. Can give some tips later.

As has always been the case, best shops are still in the North Laines - clothes, music, etc. Lots of cafés and bars in the area, so nice place to while away a few hours.

Can give you some further tips, if there are particular things your interested in?

Thank guys for all the recommendations. I was told that giggling squid was good earlier this week so have booked this and Gingermans looks nice. Anyone know of any other good steak house. Budget wise It a special weekend so will be on the higher end.

Prescription art I will defo be popping along to seeing you on sat at some point. have booked the ice rink at the Pavilion which will either go down well or i I might be spending my time in the hospital in Brighton.

Is the market cafe still open at the old steine?  If so get there about 2am for the fryup and a cup of tea!  Perfect to soak any excess beer.
