Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by Ågent ßacardi on Aug 2, 2007 23:10:33 GMT 1, Uhhh... I still don't get it. Taking the michael? Having a giraffe? Never heard those phrases before The Americans have much classier sayings that express things that are so much more profound... such as: Flogging the dolphin Spanking the monkey Choking the chicken Beating the one-eyed trouser snake Polishing the bishop ;D these are all slang for w@nking... another word americans don't use! I believe you call it 'jerking off'
Jerking off, beating off... I believe these are the most common ones, although if you called an American a wanker, he'd know that it's not a compliment for sure! ;D

Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by corblimeylimey on Aug 2, 2007 23:12:42 GMT 1, "take the mick/mickey/michael -- vb. British -- to mock, deride, poke fun at. These expressions are milder versions of 'take the piss.' Unbeknownst to most users, they employ rhyming slang: Mickey is short for a mythical 'Mickey Bliss,' providing the rhyme for 'piss.' 'Michael' is a humorous variant. The phrases, like their more vulgar counterpart, have been in use since the 1940s."
'Taking the mickey' and 'taking the piss' out of someone are often used here in Ireland. They can have slightly different meanings, though.
'I knew he was only taking the mickey outa me, so I bought him pint and we had a laugh.'
'He was taking the piss outa me so I floored him!'

Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by finsburyparkranger on Aug 2, 2007 23:12:48 GMT 1, Its hard to explain. When you take the piss out of someone you are either mocking them or using them. Yeah i smell a piss take too, but thought it was all a little tongue in cheek and the hostility seemed a little un-called for FPR, im sure it wasnt though mate just me being naieve! oh well!
There are some fairly caustic twisted Silky haters out there. Silky fan was just a character someone was hoping to use to constantly take the piss out of silky. Go through the posts. They were dark.

I've seen the RUTS, got photos of them somewhere. They were local boys. Richmond Upon Thames, my drinking grounds in the punk days. Actually just been up into the loft (to see what I can flog next to buy prints) and found all the early Sniffin Glues! Some of them worth £500 apparently.

A great band and Malcolm Owen was a real character. Sniffin Glue. Wow, that was a real punk initiative. What was the kids name who started it. Something Perry wasn't it?

i'm in the same sort of boat... got quite a few valuable punk records but no record player. I can't bring myself to sell 'em though for sentimental reasons

Yeah, love the abstract work on her site. Lazy sod won't reply to emails though, so I wondered if it was because she's too big to reply to people, or just down to lazyness and apathy. Have a look at the Phoenix picture on her site. Knocks spots off Guy Dennings work IMHO

Oh yeah, that's an awesome one! I love the carnival ones too, especially mack the knife. Disturbing in a mesmerizing way!
I think she's just being lazy by not returning emails. Kinda foolish

He he. Yes thats it precisely. Its a polite version of 'f**k me'. Often done in the early stages of haggling for something or hearing about the next door neighbour getting up the duff. ;D

Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by pkt75 on Aug 3, 2007 2:01:56 GMT 1, not that alot of you will care for my opinion, Ill say anyway. On readin this thread, i saw nothin dark, malitious or 'piss take' about Silky fans posts. Wot i saw was one of you decide (as per usual on this site) that you hear somthin you dont like, throw up ur defences and everyone else who is despeate to belong, follows. There is alot of the 'every single day i must post something' members of this site that think they have the right to direct the way they feel a thread should be directed, dispite other members feelings, thoughts and opinions. If there was a piss take to be had, then we have all seen the pics from 'found' posted. Now there was a piss take or two to be had there and I aint talkin about the art. Get off ur high horses guys, jus cos we dont lick ur arses, it dont mean our interest in art is lesser than urs. you all know who you are.
