Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by brainthedog on Aug 2, 2007 21:27:00 GMT 1, I think graffiti/street art is still growing (albeit a fast pace), but when do you think the bubble with burst? remember when the japanese market tanked and the secondary market was flooded with some pretty valuable stuff? what's your prediction for the market today and in the near future?

That all depends on the world markets. This isn't the best place to ask that question really.

The market will keep selling vegetables and we'll keep supporting street art. Keep your bubbles for the bath tub. Who gives a f**k!

I've got a homeless guy I pass on the way home, stinks off piss and always has a can of white lightning!
I was going to give him my banksy WSM to tear up and stuff in his jacket to keep warm, and I've earmarked JD for a roof to his cardboard box! ;D

if that is your only concern then the art can't mean that much to you? BTW no-one on here knows more than you, art is 100% subjective so as long as you know your own mind, you know more than anyone. having said that.......................................... ;D

Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by rob123rob on Aug 2, 2007 22:01:47 GMT 1, no, but seriously, most of us on here probably can't afford the art we buy, and that's part of the point to all of this: street art, grafiti art, whatever you want to call it, is meant for the average guy on the street, not Billy BMW. If I only bought what I could afford my life would suck. And so yes, one day it will all fall apart, the credit card companies will catch up with me, the house will go and if I had any kids they'd never see a day in daycare, but I am always surrounded by things that I like (except for the people who live on either side of me).

Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by tomhills1 on Aug 2, 2007 22:12:54 GMT 1, what i'm saying SF is that buy within your budget, whatever that may be, and buy what you like. that way when, not if, the bubble bursts you will still be happy with your lot. if it goes up, great, if not - no matter, you still have something you enjoy looking at.
there is no science involved, be true to yourself and let the rest take care of itself.
goodnight.

Are we in an Art Market Bubble?, by rob123rob on Aug 2, 2007 22:13:30 GMT 1, some real advice: (and you probably already know this) -check all the sites dozens of times a day if you can, try to never buy on the secondary market, buy only from the original source, and buy art by artists that not a lot of people are talking about yet as long as you like it. -get on all the mailing lists with all the galleries and artists -be careful of online galleries that don't sell exclusives (because even though they might not look like it, they are the secondary market) -and check out sites like OMGposters and Tiny Showcase (as they both sell good art really cheap on a weekly basis).

You don't need to spend ยฃ5000.
Lets say you buy a print for around ยฃ100, if no one else likes it, it'll be difficult to sell, but if you like it it can stay on your wall until the day you die, or even if you throw it away after you're bored with it in 5-10 years time it hasn't cost you much for the enjoyment it gave you.
You can buy original art for between ยฃ50 - ยฃ150 check out copyright.myshopify.com/ www.ctrl84.com/main.htm www.dieselfuelprints.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=14_30_322
Check out the ยฃ50 thread for prints.
I try not to ever spend more than ยฃ300 on a print, the exception would be a signed Banksy from POW at maybe ยฃ500 - ยฃ600.
Check out this forums links page banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=links&action=display&thread=1181733641&page=1
Always buy what you like, can afford, and can afford to lose assuming you can't sell it.

Buy only from the original source? Not that easy if you want a Banksy!! I wish I had connections like some people here Maybe if I ask Silky really nicely he will put in a good word for me at POW ;D That would be so sweet!!! ;D ;D
