Kaws BFF, by honestcrooks on Jul 8, 2016 9:56:45 GMT 1, Yes, I also noticed the high "Colette" price, much higher than the original price of $HK15000 (~175โฌ). It's a good business for them, not sure how many they had for sale. It seems they had a part in-store and a part online. Also, it was a pre-order for the online orders, so I guess they don't even have the online orders yet. Prepare to get a whole lot of refunds (like always when buying upon release on colette.fr )

I just saw one on bay, so I was sure it comes from ali "the world of fake"... Not agree with forgery but i buy a kaws x yue minjun as I really love yue minjun and the original is to expensive for me and it's good quality. I also try a kaws trooper and it go to garbage as it's really s**t. Incredible to see how kaws toys and plushs are copy, or even create toys doesn't exist. Perhaps soon a pest control for kaws works..

Kaws BFF, by Happy Shopper on Aug 4, 2016 9:41:49 GMT 1, Hopefully he'll release a real vinyl of this figure. It's becoming impossible to buy anything by Kaws now without serious research about the fakes.
Because toy collectors have encouraged the fakes by knowingly buying them they've flooded the market and got harder and harder to spot the differences!

Appears to be 2 versions: Moma Version and Black (although the boxes are numbered 1 and 3, so perhaps number 2 is Blue!?)

Kaws BFF, by Happy Shopper on Aug 29, 2017 14:28:07 GMT 1, These should look quite nice if they look like the original, giant statues. But I'd prefer 16" and limited edition. Open Editions take the fun out of collecting, and they're too expensive.

Kaws BFF, by chads007 on Aug 29, 2017 14:54:13 GMT 1, Id say price given that it's an open edition. ยฃ200 for a cheap toy is still not what I'd call easily accessible.

Kaws BFF, by Happy Shopper on Aug 29, 2017 15:07:33 GMT 1, Thinking a little more about it... BFF is an odd choice for an open edition. For not much more you could get one of the Limited Edition plush versions (which it seems most people prefer).
I'm surprised he didn't do Open Edition Chums or Accomplices.

Kaws BFF, by Howard Johnson on Aug 29, 2017 16:11:31 GMT 1, I feel like kaws really only had two ethical ways to move forward with the vinyl editions: 1) open editions to beat out all the Chinese bootlegs or 2) the establishment of some sort of authentication process similar to pest control (which would be inviting a lawsuit). I know vinyl collectors can tell the difference, but with improved forgeries over the years I imagine that at some point there wouldn't really be a way to authenticate these things down the road. Not my area of expertise, but I don't think a lot of the earlier ones came with distinct COAs or whatever.
I applaud him for these editions. Yes it's a cash in. Yes there's no way these will be valuable until many years to come. But, it gets the arts into the hands that truly want it, or those silly enough to put forth the effort on a flip with razor thin margins. I can't think of any other world renowned artist that does stuff like this.

Kaws BFF, by chads007 on Aug 29, 2017 16:33:22 GMT 1, These open editions will not become significantly valuable above cost anyway I'm
Pricing around 100usd would have been ideal. Wouldn't cost more than a few bucks to make in a sweatshop.
The open editions haven't stopped the flippers or boot leggers. But the brand of kaws needed other revenue streams, so these are ideal.

I can't think of any other world renowned artist that does stuff like this. He still does the limited figures. They're just Bronze now and are 75k. He is still hitting both markets, limited edition figures and open edition. I don't think you'll ever see a normal vinyl piece that is limited again. He has moved towards bronze for the 4' figures and smaller figures. I would prefer to see some new companion positions put into open editions. I'm not a fan of the BFF, so it would be great to see maybe some of his larger wood companions such as small lie turned into an open edition vinyl, though I imagine he would rather save those companions for more limited bronze editions that he can sling for 75k.
