Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Sturban Has Saggy Tits on Mar 7, 2017 1:18:31 GMT 1, I agree, I think merchandise, if any will be absolutely minimal. Personally can't see any t-shirts saying 'I went to Bethlehem and all I got was this lousy t-shirt'

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by urbanflik on Mar 7, 2017 4:48:58 GMT 1, I think cans of paint and stencils to go out and hit the wall like an army of Banksy's..spread the message. Best graff with photo evidence gets a print, or a bullet in the bollock.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Dungle on Mar 7, 2017 7:09:05 GMT 1, Haaaaaaa, Outside this scene I should think most regular blokes would think it's crazy paying anything over £50 for a picture to put on the wall Yup but then again,'regular blokes' might spend 500/month in pubs, 2k/year on a season ticket for Arsenal, or 100k+/lifetime on a baby. What's regular and what's not is pretty arbitrary.
Regular blokes don't go to Arsenal, they are called *****.

It will be prints, a book surely and art. ( spray cans bombs could not be send by plane )

Yeah right. Banksy and his people are still treating them to luxury dinners and Elton John gigs. The whole anarchy break the system schtick is all a bit of a front these days to get investment bankers to shell out £100k for a canvas.

I think its a little bit bigger now than a bit of fun on the streets of London with coppers sniffing coke, and some awesome statues
There is a machine to be fed. This possibly cost well over a million to set up?
and he has gained a massive PR machine AKA the world press along the way who love to gel him spread his messages.
If it means he has decided to sell his stuff to people that he knows that.........
A) has the money to buy them B) Will be discreet C) won't flip them D) will hold them for a certain amount of time and won't brag shout about them all over the web
...........and it allows him to be creative and do his s**t, and get what ever is on his mind out to the populous seems fair enough to me.
he is not the messiah he is a very naughty boy
Ps
i'm spouting a load of bollocks possibly, but hey no change there, and its what i would like to think happens

Not spouting shit at all. I'm sure sales to wealthy buyers fund this and funded dismalland. And us average chaps get to enjoy the fruits. Ok with me.

Still think more of a balance could be struck. Something a long the lines a Josh Keyes tiny showcase approach that gives everyday people the chance to own a top artist's work at an affordable price. Just because Banksy's Banksy he seems to get an easy ride on here for pricing himself out of reach of all but the 1%ers that so much of his work is against.

Why is your wallet/collection more important than what banksy is attempting to achieve?

For me he's a good (not great, I should add) artist and not the Dalai Lama. In my humble opinion he's no more relevant for promoting causes than Bono or Madonna. Nothing wrong with that per se but just not my thing. It wouldn't stop me from seeing his work in Bethlehem, as in general I like his art and enjoy travelling, plus it's interesting concept. But, I doubt it will achieve much if anything other than create some nice art for some very rich people to take home.

I hear what you are saying. Banksy's work is beyond my means now. As is the work of many artists that I admire. But for me, his work is more about the experiences he gives. And there's no other artist that I can think of that does something like that for his fans, not to mention what he does for local communities and causes. Take my favourite painter for example, Jenny Saville; I adore her work. But I've seen two shows of her work, and have some books. That's all. Banksy gave me one of the most memorable days of my life - at dismalland. I appreciate that I'm coming accross as a pouting fanboy, and for that I apologise. But it's genuinely how I feel.

Not bad for a piss-taker with a spray can and a conscience.
Edit: I mean piss-taker in the most respectful and positive way. Please don't have me killed.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Dr Plip on Mar 8, 2017 0:27:36 GMT 1, Imagine if he didn't do the innovative "shows/events". Imagine if he just rested on his laurels and put out a couple of high-priced prints each year or every time valentine's day came around.
Imagine how dull that would be.
Too limited. Too expensive. Too similar. Not an image I like. Mine arrived creased and I'm crying, etc, etc. It'd be tedious.
His projects might not be for everyone, but he's bloody having a go.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Dr Plip on Mar 8, 2017 0:40:07 GMT 1, I don't know why people seem put off by the bunk beds. I love bunk beds. Plus it's lovely to sleep with others around you. You feel all warm and secure. Safe in the knowledge that you'll all be able to fight off an attacker together or you at least won't die alone.
I'd be all for the bunk beds.
Plus, I'd feel like a bit of a tool sleeping in a "luxury" bed.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Deleted on Mar 8, 2017 0:46:37 GMT 1, I don't think it matters what he decides to sell in Wall Mart. I'm sure it will be very apt whether it's souvenirs or local produce. Framed copies of the Balfour declaration could be good for Banksy collectors if the copy is screenprinted. Maybe with some online links for people to google and read up a few articles on the Balfour declaration including Churchills role and the roles of some major players the Rockefellers etc and their influence.
The Banksy market today is what it is. It's the big investors and big money people who afford the artworks. How many people complaining of high prices would be happy if their folder of investment prints price went down a huge percentage instead of going up?
There is always the bootleg souvenir shop next to the hotel for people to have something.
I agree Banksy is not the messiah. The world has had too many messiahs and all we got from them is old men with beards spouting religious spoutings with their religious demands and complaints and intolerance that non religious people have to tolerate or are ordered to tolerate as being an athiest and saying it's all bolloks is considered a religious hate crime whatever the fuck that is in any logical world.
He ain't the messiah but he is way above the Pope in my book.
I don't think it matters what he decides to sell in Wall Mart.
