Clarity on availability and edition details. Simply putting on the website that a print is available in store only for around £100 will attract a lot of people looking to earn a quick quid.. Another solution would be to release a signed edition at market value and give all funds to the cause and an unsigned open edition to all that can't afford the signature.. but that's another thread on its own...

But banksy sure knew what the reaction would be. Why play into it. Why not just have it show up one day when actual people who may have went for the right reasons could kick out?

All the checkpoints, security and palava on the Israeli side to the peace and calm of the Palestinian side. Had really hoped to bag a sculpture or print but it wasn't to be.
The Walled Off Hotel is nicely done but couldn't help but feel somewhat underwhelmed there really isn't much atmosphere in there. The staff are lovely though. Didn't stay as the rooms were full but they do seem very overpriced when you stay in a decent place round the corner for £35 a night.
I do wish there wasn't always such a faff with anything banksy. If you say to your 1.2 million followers on instagram that the wall sculpture is 'now available' is it really that difficult to stick to that? Why not just post it up when it's actually in store? Knowing the popularity and the effect of those words on a worldwide audience it's pretty thoughtless. There were people flying in from LA and all sorts. And then to release only 11 or 12 a few days later is just silly. The print was never advertised as available now so I do get that.
I really hope it wasn't all a deliberate wind up, some kind of anti-flipper conspiracy. There are so many fans out there who just want to own something official by banksy that's affordable and to mess them around just isn't nice. Hopefully there was a genuine reason for the delays but it could have been communicated. Also if the whole point of the exercise is to bring people to experience Palestine and spend money with the locals it is completely counter productive to have all this secrecy and cloak and dagger with the release as it just means people don't leave the hotel all day for fear of missing out which is exactly what happened!
Still enjoyed it though. My wife lost her passport on the Israeli side of the wall in a taxi but someone from the hotel sorted it out and it was returned in a hour. That could have been a complete nightmare!! What a guy, he's a local fixer by the name of George I think. Any problems ask for him!!

Great Post Dice - I feel bad for the staff at the hotel as they seem to being fed parts of information about the art but not the whole story. They have to deal with Americans like me calling at 4 AM EST and they probably want to tell a guy from the states to piss off and talk about my countries interference in their lives forever. I felt like such a deuche asking about art knowing full well the history between our countries. Once I heard his accent on the phone - I thought to myself am I really calling Bethlehem to ask about a trinket !!!! |
