Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Cookiemonster on Sept 8, 2017 17:32:39 GMT 1, I do have to agree that all those who made that mad rush out to Bethlehem without getting full information first, that is on you, that is not the artists, POW's or Pest Control's fault for not giving you more information. With exception to the grapple hook, everything else are open editions, so no rush to go. Also how is this a publicity stunt to get more customers to the hotel, when even prior to the announcement yesterday, all the rooms were booked virtually all the way up till December. You jumped the gun coz you saw the $$$$$. I seriously thought about going, but backed out for fear it would be as**t show, but... 1. They did say the store is now open, and on the sales page it says the items are available in store. Not too hard to get the "wrong" idea! 2. Yesterday ALL rooms were still available, even for this weekend. I was an inch away from booking the Banksy Scenic Suite for 1 night (tonight)... in fact there are STILL rooms available this Sunday. not all rooms, and I know this to be fact, as I had coincidentally been planning to go out next weekend , but there was little to no option. Irrespective, those that are complaining about lack of information, geez, I remember going out to Santas Ghetto with NO information except that it was opposite a falafel shop in Manger Square. There were no tours, cab options, hotel options or how or what to expect going through customs. There wasnt any information either if any prints or any art was for sale. Like many who made that trip in 2007 and the trip this year, it was and still is one of the best experiences of my life. No art will ever come close to the experience.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by met on Sept 8, 2017 17:42:26 GMT 1, So what do people think of the grappling hook meaning, explain to me please Imagine the circumstances of the average person immediately after death:
During life, they didn't mess up to the point where they're now being sent to face eternal damnation in Hell. But neither do they get to flounce off straight to Heaven. Instead, they end up in Purgatory.
Venial sins might have been committed by them, with penance left undone. Or maybe it was mortal sins (redeemed by repentance) โ the relevant grave matters perhaps being murder, or rape, or masturbation.
Either way, that person is forced into Purgatory to cleanse their soul. And for god knows how long. It must be like waiting ages at a bus stop, when you've no idea how long it's going to be before the damn bus shows up. Moreover in this analogy, the bus stop, the ground you're standing on, and everything else around you is in flames.
Although I am patient and have a pretty high pain threshold, to this prospect I would still say, "Screw the 'purification through fire' crap."
_______________
Now, here's where a grappling hook would be useful if you had one to hand:
First, to escape Purgatory.
Second, for climbing over the pearly gates to Heaven โ somewhere by the side or at the back, in one of Saint Peter's blind spots.
_______________
Having listened attentively to the Lady in the Radiator, my understanding is that "In Heaven, everything is fine." And, granted, that's reassuring to hear. Nevertheless, a proper irritation for me would be the non-stop praising of god. It's unbecoming. Indecent, even. Given this regressive and imposed worship culture, one has to conclude the so-called "Almighty" is a deeply insecure character.
On a more positive note, Heaven seems largely populated by mentally feeble, servile types playing harps and whatnot all day long. In such a society, I suspect it would be relatively straightforward to stage a coup d'รฉtat.
It isn't really clear how big a chap god is, but a well-placed kick in the groin would eliminate any height advantage he may have. The paternalistic dictator could then be arrested and placed on trial.
Afterwards, democratic reforms, combined with a much greater emphasis placed on education, would do Heaven a wealth of good. Individuals would become more independent and self-sufficient when freed from their overbearing father figure. They'd make greater use of their critical faculties, and the values of the Enlightenment could be embraced. This would allow everyone just to get on with their afterlives in a lucid, dignified and grown-up manner.
[Later, we could discuss possible options for bringing about a regime change in Hell โ where the unacceptable, barbaric practices of eternal humiliation and torture are currently the norm.]
_______________
In brief, therefore, the grappling hook is a potential tool. And a very helpful one.
It is also but a tool.
The real work that awaits will be down to you and me. Down to all of us. Together, we can encourage increased awareness. We can instigate social change and (dare I say) even revolution in the hereafter.

Lol, spot on as it's probably the same bloodthirsty mentality as with blood diamonds.

Anyhoo, where are these photos of those who are out there now? No one has still to post a photo backing up their disappointment.

I was gonna go in December but I moved my trip forward in the hope to maybe buy something on the off chance, if nothing is available I don't mind as I get to go see it all. I'm a big fan of the work and not just collecting. ๐๐โค๏ธ

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by larsson on Sept 8, 2017 21:48:02 GMT 1, I said I'd update today - so here goes. Although I cannot really add much further information to everything that has already been written.
I arrived around 10am. Only postcard sets and T shirts available, news that Crucifix Grappling Hook has sold out, and that it was unclear when other items might go on sale in the Gift Shop. There were a few West Country accents in the bar / breakfast room - apparently there was a flight in from Bristol last night!
Some thoughts: 1. First of all, apart from the perhaps the manager, I'm pretty sure the kind hotel staff knew almost nothing about this launch (this would make sense) - and even now don't know the answers to questions being asked. I'm sure there are some disappointed visitors at the moment - and more on the way - but hope they appreciate this.
2. If these items are not being produced in Bethlehem itself - then I think it might be quite challenging getting them through Israeli customs, checkpoints and so on - especially in bulk.
-----
My favourite Banksy piece in the hotel is actually a stencil in "Wall Mart" next door - I'm not sure a stencil counts a piece of art, but I like it nonetheless - reminds me of the days Banksy graffiti would pop up along the Thames.
Ps. As I mentioned in my last post - whilst a keen fan - I didn't get into buying prints until around 2011. The first print I bought was 'Warning' by Invader at POW in the run up to Christmas. It was cold in the queue. I missed out on a silver edition but was happy with the grey. I stood next to this nice young guy who told me he was an aspiring young artist himself and showed me a couple of pieces of his work on his phone. I was impressed and wished him well. We never met again. His name was Carl Cashman. :-)

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Deleted on Sept 8, 2017 21:58:52 GMT 1, I said I'd update today - so here goes. ----- My favourite Banksy piece in the hotel is actually a stencil in "Wall Mart" next door - I'm not sure a stencil counts a piece of art, but I like it nonetheless - reminds me of the days Banksy graffiti would pop up along the Thames. Great post. I remember that Invader queue well, as I was also queuing next to Carl, and like you I recall him showing us his stuff and making the time go by a bit faster. Happy days.
