Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by met on Sept 18, 2017 2:58:39 GMT 1, [...] What's the medium, look's like spraypaint and oil pastel for the crowns? lovely touch the hand finishing!! Can I also ask while I am here why no Signature on either piece?
1. Black acrylic background painted by brush, stencil spraypaint, and oil pastel for the Basquiat crowns.
2. Banksy hasn't signed or stencil-tagged an outdoor work for many years. An exception would be the Bristol primary school mural in 2016. But with that one, the signature (including the backward 'S') was part of the work itself, part of the joke.
Yet again, I spotted "Sir Banksy" being mentioned here half-jokingly. No doubt it's always intended as respectful, a way of expressing admiration for the artist. But frankly it's nonsensical. And arguably insulting.
Could any informed Banksy enthusiast imagine the artist being happy with such a title? Banksy the royalist, embracing the Establishment? Agreeing to kneel (even ironically), to stoop down on one fucking knee before a monarch to receive a knighthood? Sod the British honours system.
If, for whatever reason, Banksy craves an outward sign of prestige, he has it already. It's manifested by the fact there's no longer any need for him to add his name to street pieces.
He has reached the grail position most artists can only dream of: the ability to create work that is instantly and widely recognisable as his own, with or without a signature.

This is incorrect. The only time work is known to be banksy is when it's posted as official on his instagram.
Banksy is a great artist but you've taken it too far with all the fluffy praise.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by lee3 on Sept 18, 2017 3:07:48 GMT 1, 9 hours and the paint is still wet? These pieces continue to confuse! I'd guess those crowns are oil stick in the same manner that Basquiat often painted them back in his day and if so, one will be able to rub that off the wall for some time. Banksy has utilized oil stick in the past with other street works too. He saluted similar logic with Choose Your Weapon where the dog walker is spray paint stencil while the dog was hand painted with sumi ink and dark acrylic just as Haring painted them in his day.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by met on Sept 18, 2017 3:16:10 GMT 1, [...] [...]
What I find regrettable is someone having felt the need to slightly alter the work — and potentially change its meaning — before 24 hours had even passed.
The shot below (without the red dot / bullet-hole forehead) was taken at around 5 p.m.

Thanks lee. If you are correct that does add another level to it IMO.

Goes rather well with the ugly thing in the middle.
It's street art - every wall with a Banksy on it is sacred now ?

I actually find the quite good, execution decent as far as "in the style of" goes
We all saw pictures of the original untouched piece, so now let it live !

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by Sliding on the Walls on Sept 18, 2017 12:37:22 GMT 1, I love how despite Banksy's anti-establishment nature, he still embraces diversity by making one of the police officers a female. Who's to say Banksy himself didn't come back and put a dot in the head of the female police officer, thus also encompassing cultural diversity?

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by Rouen Cathedral on Sept 18, 2017 13:03:27 GMT 1, I quite like the crown Ferris wheel one.
I still don't get the search one. Seems repetitive and not quite clear on meaning or connection.
Is this corner busy? Would be interesting to know the logistics of two works on opposite walls. If it's a somewhat populated area I'd assume you'd need to work on both at the same time no?

Just checked it out. The Ferris Wheel was not attracting as much attention as the portrait, but it is very nice.
Beech St gets a bit of traffic, but Golden Lane isn't very busy. I think people tend to avoid walking through the area in the middle of the night as it's a bit dingy.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by Dibbs 45 on Sept 18, 2017 17:50:42 GMT 1, Just been down there. Lovely work by Mr B. Security stated that they didn't know what is going to happen to the pieces. So who knows.
This for me is classic banksy. Crude stencils that are recognisable in his work and reaching the kind of recognition that doesn't warrant a signature ( as someone mentioned). It would be great if it stays without someone tagging it. But let's face it; chances are this isn't going to happen unless security are there 24/7.
