Bitcoin, by gd79 on Jan 12, 2018 9:41:43 GMT 1, I've got a couple of practical questions about the current crop of crypto
If you got hit by a bus (sorry for the example!) would your next of kin being able to access your wallet? How? Do the passwords etc need to be written down somewhere?
If you needed to leave the wallet unattended for a few years, would you be able to? ie with no security patches, upgrades etc. Do wallets automate this or does it require your intervention? I ask because increases in computer processing power will render current security measures woefully inadequate in time.
Interested for some views (pm or on the thread fine). I am familiar with all the background stuff, but not with these behavioural issues of those investing in crypto.

No, except that you let the passwords (better the seed) written in some place.

What it is called "wallet" is, in fact, a password (aka 'private key'). The coins are not stored in the app or the hardware device, they are stored in the blockchain. So "wallets" are just devices to store/manage your "private key".
So, answering your second question: if your smartphone or hardware wallet is crashed and burned, as long as you have stored your "private key" anywhere (even written in a paper, aka "cold wallet"), you will be able to re-take control of your coins in the future using whatever wallet device be in fashion.

I bought a whole load of FUNC (Fun Coin) around July and thought I was buying FUN (Funfair Token). Before you all berate me, yes I know it was stupid, yes I know i'm an idiot. I'm sharing this anyway.
I watched as FUNC steadily went south and FUN went North!
It's an ongoing joke between me and my Crypto friends not only because of the fact it did terribly (currently at a 96% loss on my investment and the ONLY coin which is not seeing gains) but also it sounds like it would be used as payment for sexy times.
This being said, FUNC is on the way up (eventually and nowhere near as much as FUN has)
I'm looking forward to seeing the future for Pillar (PLR) after seeing the ease of sending cryptos with their app in their latest live video

Bitcoin, by FЯ on Jan 13, 2018 22:58:30 GMT 1, Some of the alt coins are ok.
Be careful of most and read their white papers and roadmaps.
i dont own btc as its laced with criminals and dodgy tradings, but do have iota and dtr.
dtr i got at ico level. For £350 i received 38,500 of them in november and have since bought more. they are now trading at $0.21 cents per coin and rising and the digital trading rights exchange has not officially launched yet, nor is it on many exchanges. Still cheap enough to get into. When it does launch it will rise alot
You wont make your millions by buying little bits of coin for £50, certainly not in coins where they are already up to £10k each despite what anyone says (normally people that own alot of them). Ethereum looks good though if you are into buying small amounts.
if you put £50 i to dtr in november it would now be worth £1155 roughly just 2 months later today . Just be careful of dodgys**tcoins

Hah, this is not a bear market. It's a bad day. When the sh1t really hits all this cr@p will be down 99% in a few hours. No-one will make money as banks will stop accepting payments out of exchanges (the few that currently do). No work arounds will be possible as no trust will be left in the system. That day will come, but this isn't it

Bitcoin, by chevyav53 on Jan 17, 2018 14:16:49 GMT 1, Some folk’s blind dedication to crypto is astonishing. Eventually these things have to be useable in day to day transactions. Not only was this expected as the hype died down but unless people feel there is a practical use it will drop further when it’s realized the prices won’t just continue to increase. When I say a use I mean in real life, as in now, not some Blade Runner future people keep hoping for.
