Bitcoin, by seanburke on Sept 19, 2017 13:02:13 GMT 1, I've become a bit disillusioned with crypto recently, you can make a lot of money trading but it's very draining keeping an eye on news/feeds/alerts etc.
I held ether since early may this year but actually made more money from a few days trading litecoin this month.
The disillusion bit is that they are all so aligned with Bitcoin - if it moves, so do the rest of them no matter what their good news is.

Bitcoin, by bigp on Sept 19, 2017 13:08:56 GMT 1, I'm a relative newcomer to the crypto scene (4 months) but I'm seriously hooked. The future of smart contracts, small transaction fees and digital currency is the future. Never has there been a better opportunity to take the power away from the greedy bankers and put it firmly back into the peoples hands. But it's still a gamble, investment wise.Bitcoin is the king at the moment but who knows what will happen in the future as there are many coins/tokens making progress. There are over 800 different tokens/coins so choosing the right one is key (investment wise) as 99% of these will fail,in my opinion.

This thread was specifically created to not continue to derail another mostly non-art-related thread ('If you had $10k') with crypto discussion.
If you don't like it, just stop clicking on the link to this thread and replying. There is quite clearly a wider interest in this and you are in the minority.
It is quite normal to have off-topic sections on a forum, no need to get worked up over it.

Bitcoin, by chevyav53 on Sept 19, 2017 15:00:08 GMT 1, Why all the hate on the thread, as someone mentioned it was created in the Tech Forum. sparky999 I see the definition to stupid yet you have had to delete your own comments about this being an art forum if I recall seeing. Maybe you were too slow to read that this was in the Tech Forum thread or lacking intelligence or reason to think someone in an art forum may not know anything about cryptocurrencies. You yourself were quick to tout your amazing skills in this matter then retracted them as quickly.
By the way I am not that person, just a small fish. Only way I've invested in it before was buying stock in companies with vested interest in blockchain. However, recently jumped in as had a few Gs to burn, tried something new.
After a few months of reading decided on Ethereum as it is being backed by the big boys (JP Morgan, MSFT etc..) who don't like Bitcoin messing with their market and has a focus to the project. Then Litecoin for the hell of it.

You probably won't see this as you said you blocked me earlier but well done for persisting.
Give it a rest now though, eh?
Back on topic, a recent Cambridge University study into Crypto currency has shown that contrary to what some people have already touched on earlier in this thread, it really is a virgin market.
There are only 1,876 people working full-time in the cryptocurrency industry. Of those, the most find work in Asia-Pacific with 720. Behind that is North America with 676 employees.
One person showed a chart earlier showing the rate of growth for Bitcoin. It reminded me of another chart, the amount of debt the U.S. Government has accrued.

It really is made by programmers without any understanding of society. Its way too complicated to use to attract the masses and to make it more commonly used. Will be interesting to see what happens when it becomes as easy to use as paypal.

I did a brief interview about Bitcoin the other day you can read it here if you like
www.pokerstrategy.com/news/world-of-poker/Understanding-Bitcoin-with-Marc-Kennedy_101922/
Having a secure place to store money that can not be seized by governments is the most significant advancement in money since it's creation. Bitcoin is not just a value transfer system it is an immutable digital record. It was not possible to create a digital record that was immutable before blockchain technology was invented.
If you are interested read about the Byzantine's General problem might help you visualise how important this breakthrough is.
Make no mistake blockchain technology is going to be a part of the future and is likely to significantly change the world we live in - that doesn't mean Bitcoin is going straight to $100,000 though. The road will be slow and painful and it might not be Bitcoin that wins the title of most widely used coin. We might have a future where hundreds of coins exist and inter-operate across blockchains with out the end user even realising they used crypto currency in the transaction or we might have one to rule them all.
There is always a chance this great experiment fails but with every passing day that chance grows smaller.
Don't buy the hype but educate yourself and don't fleetingly dismiss something because it might not be what you need, imagine a life with out access to the western financial banking system, that is most people's reality. Imagine living in a corrupt country like Iran/Russia where you can't trust your funds not to be seized. Imagine living in a country that doesn't allow you to have free speech and now being able to record your thoughts forever on an international publicly available blockchain.

Bitcoin is also not anonymous it is pseudo-anonymous very significant difference. If you want anonymity Monero is the only choice currently.
Dash/Zcash/bitcoin can all be tracked through chain analysis because of the way inputs and outputs are mapped.

Bitcoin, by Sliding on the Walls on Sept 20, 2017 10:34:09 GMT 1, An Anarcho Capitalist creation, not governed by any Governments and used and managed by the people and in some cases, to help the people. Banksy would love it
I think blockchain technology is so exciting, and I think that Bitcoin is a fantastic 'way in' for many to gaining a better understanding of not only our finances, but the way we work together as a species, the way technology is enabling us to do so much more than we once could before the blockchain. It's not all about crazy profits either, there are some very ethical companies using crypto.
I'm particularly interested in seeing what the future holds for Cloak Coin, Golem, PillarCoin, Humaniq, OmiseGo, Litecoin, FoodCoin, Stratis, Etherium, NEM, Steem, Veritaseum, Burst coin. That is not to say I have any financial investment in these (I do in some), but I am interested in how they could potentially evolve and help shape the future.

Through a VPN its possible I can purchase any amount of bitcoin and send it to someone anywhere in the world and I will be totally anonymous.(purchasing through local bitcoin)This is what I mean by being anonymous. For the record I don't own any bitcoin, but I wish I did three years ago. If you have to put trust in a VPN service to not forward your info to gov't then it's not anonymous by default but yes for small money movements you can mask yourself enough to be unlikely to be discovered.
Not true - 100% someone or some group could take control of Bitcoin with enough capital. Bitcoin is also not anonymous it is pseudo-anonymous very significant difference. If you want anonymity Monero is the only choice currently. Dash/Zcash/bitcoin can all be tracked through chain analysis because of the way inputs and outputs are mapped. Bitcoin, by Happy Shopper on Sept 20, 2017 11:09:39 GMT 1, To me shares and these bitcoins are just gambling. The only winners are the casinos... or those that are so dedicated to it they can spend every minute monitoring the ups and downs, or are able to manipulate the market due to their size. They win and everyone else loses.

Bitcoin, by RoboJ on Sept 20, 2017 11:26:16 GMT 1, ... the bankers are now running the show ... see above ... the money men will trade anything where they see they can make a profit ... that is what they will do ... ... other than a few independent companies saying that will accept bitcoin or the like as a trade in goods or services to gain publicity, the price per unit is solely based on trading ... and who is doing that? (rhetorical question) ... tulips ... ps sparky999 were you for or against the e-currency? you can PM direct The banks may trade and manipulate bitcoin but they will never be able to control it,that's why its so special in my eyes.A currency of which is totally decentralised and anonymous.
That's the issue I've seen. Crypto is supposed to be decentralised however the China news shows how the money in crypto is held by investors rather than people who believe in the system. Otherwise it wouldn't have plummeted.

Bitcoin, by Deleted on Sept 20, 2017 11:30:50 GMT 1, The Chinese want to get their cash out of China... this is perfect for that.
The Chinese government banning exchanges means nish, there are many ways around it...... VPN's being a simple starting point....
This is like buying Banksy prints on original drop day.

Bitcoin, by 63schoefflin on Sept 20, 2017 18:39:20 GMT 1, Ah I had no idea this thread existed over here. I'm mostly invested in ETH as well as some OMG, SALT, IOTA, ZRX and DNT. Should be in for some big things over the next few months.
