Way to get a bend out of a print??? , by jbelleit on Oct 7, 2017 0:30:30 GMT 1, I bought Faile's "Worth Something (gold)" from the bay. It was shipped flat (not in a tube) and when I got it, I took it directly to the framer. While there, I didn't see this bend in the print until after it was framed. Is there ANY WAY to get the bend smoothed out?

Any advice is much appreciated (except the advice to look at prints carefully upon receipt)...I think I know that one now...an expensive lesson

Way to get a bend out of a print??? , by avec art on Oct 7, 2017 0:36:05 GMT 1, ok step one .. don't worry too much. I see it, but it's not so bad. Can't really blame the framer, but seems could've happened at any point. I can tell you how I would deal with it, but please don't hold me to it.

Way to get a bend out of a print??? , by avec art on Oct 7, 2017 0:45:32 GMT 1, I would have the print flat on a clean surface. Then I would get a household iron, get it to the right temperature. I don't wish to sound sexist, but I personally can't understand the things so my wife is amazingly helpful at this point. You want it warm not boiling hot, and make sure it's not steaming, (is that a steam iron? I don't know).
Then between the iron and the print I place a sheet of thick paper, generously sized enough to cover the area. I use my favourite printing paper which is the 300 gram fabriano, which is also 50 % cotton which may help it to breathe.
Then gently iron the region of the bend. Keep touching the paper from time to time to ensure it's not getting too hot. You might be surprised by the results, it's very effective. This is something I've learned through trial and error, and I don't claim it to be a professional method.
Something to beware of, make sure there are no crumbs or small bits of anything, even paper, because its shape could potentially show itself under compression, if you see what I mean. If you proceed with it cautiously and don't rush you shouldn't go wrong. Also when not using the iron keep it well away from the print itself.
These threads do come up from time to time, and I'm sure there are other suggestions. Personally I don't think this small bend merits a trip to a restorer.

Way to get a bend out of a print??? , by NYart on Oct 7, 2017 0:48:43 GMT 1, Considering it doesnโt look too noticeable, unless it bothers you I wouldnโt worry until you go to sell it. Then probably take it in for restoration, should be an easy fix for a professional. I guess just take it as a learning experience. Make sure you inspect it before and have the framer acknowledge the condition when you drop it off so your not on the hook for the damage.

Way to get a bend out of a print??? , by jbelleit on Oct 7, 2017 2:07:02 GMT 1, Wow!!!! Thanks all! I see it bc it annoys me but it isn't tooooo bad. I don't plan on selling it (or at least any time soon), so is it better/worse if I just keep it framed or should I get it to a restorer sooner than later. And does every major city have a pro who can do it or do I have to take it to NYC or such? Thanks again for any help...
I love this forum!!!

Way to get a bend out of a print??? , by Chrisp on Oct 7, 2017 6:16:41 GMT 1, I think from what ive read is use the same method Artcave said but make sure any water you use is de ionised water. You can get this from many places ebay is one of them. You will limit your risk of any markings if you use de ionised water.
