If Banksy is some guy from Bristol who is a good artist making art on his own then one day got made an offer to be part of a team where some rich celeb types are creating the interest via media connections and getting celebs to buy Banksy art and he is under contract. Then it's probably why he is not allowed to reveal his identity.
If Banksy is one person, lets say Robin Gunningham and he is behind all of the Banksy art so far and calling the shots and he decides to reveal his identity, it can only raise his status as an artist.

Rothko's art is_s**t no matter how many millions it sells for and no matter who promotes it. Tracey Emins art is_s**t too. People like_s**t and buy expensive_s**t. This_s**t is good_s**t cos it's promoted by the big_s**ts in the art world. Banksy doesn't write Elton Johns songs or music. Reg Dwight writes Eltons music.
