If considering from the standpoint of net proceeds, it seems like a lower sale price could be justified on the basis that the private sale is eliminating either the overhead of a shop or a consignment fee. Also not having a go, just a thought.

Consumers have different rights when dealing with a business and they are usually easier to pursue and a safer way to transact than a private seller. That comes at a premium. |

Incidentally, a lot of art dealers operate solely online these days and thus there is very little difference between them and a so called private seller advertising online. Should there be a variance in price in that instance?

I would think it's more availability with some artists
If 2 Banksy prints were available, both mint, ยฃ10k from private. ยฃ11k shop front business. Who would we buy from?

The difficulty from galleries I would have thought would be getting in the stock at the right price to allow them a margin, not the selling part.
