Great photography is one thing but selling prints of his installation works just don't translate period. The entire impact of his location specific pieces are of course where they are and their massive size. Just horrible and I really like most of JR's work. |

New JR Prints, by Matt on Jan 4, 2018 10:08:37 GMT 1, JR's outside art keeps on getting better. The Louvre stunt was beautiful, the Olympics athletes were f'n impressive, and the border child & picnic are brilliant.
But I have to agree that his print releases through Social Animals are poorly managed. Re-release of a near identical Favela was an obvious cash grab, and the continuous output of poor images at weird prices makes no sense.
Hoping his show with Laz will make up for this. The last show at Perrotin was really nice (except the price of OGs ! )

It gives a very different effect. They do not look like photographs, they have a more painterly, slightly abstract look. Almost like a photorealistic coloured chalk painting... If you can imagine that. Although the colours do really pop. It's a nice effect, though works better mixed in with proper photos.
Along those lines, the same machine put out these 8 colour lithos by Siam's Guy. I love it, and bought this one:

It comes out even more abstract and is much further removed from a photo. The more colours you add, the more the end result just looks like a bad print out.

Thanks for the links. My understanding was that even different tones of the same color were listed as different colors. So 14 seems low. But maybe thatโs incorrect assumption or it differs.
