Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by columbo on Jan 4, 2018 14:23:49 GMT 1, and here ladies and gentlemen is conclusive proof that this artist has f**kall to do with Banksy.ย How sooo unoriginal!!!! Thanks. As I said on the other thread, no one on here is, as far as Iโm aware, suggesting that Gonefellow is Banksy. Those vehemently arguing that he isnโt are arguing with no one. I bought this piece as I like it and it has particular sentimental attachment for me. You say itโs unoriginal. I see it as a homage to (perhaps a parody of) one of Banksyโs greatest images. I expect (but cannot profess to know) that it was done with the greatest of respect to Banksy.
Very nice coach thanks for sharing

Iโm still not sure what we are disagreeing about. Iโve not claimed any connection. If members suggest that itโs by Banksy, they are swiftly told that others donโt agree that it is. Iโve explained why I like the image. I guess that we will just have to beg to differ.

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by sircoxson on Jan 6, 2018 7:59:18 GMT 1, Pretty sure classic cars are one of the best investments you can make if you got the storage. Pretty sure you are wrong. According to Bloomberg Business, "there's rarely any money to be made in the classic/vintage car business. Buying a classic car is almost never a good investment."
have to disagree here. I was lucky to buy a porsche 912 from 1965 five years ago.
canโt complain at all about a 150-200% increase since then. and I had some nice rides in it as well.

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by Matt on Jan 6, 2018 10:30:45 GMT 1, Pretty sure you are wrong. According to Bloomberg Business, "there's rarely any money to be made in the classic/vintage car business. Buying a classic car is almost never a good investment." have to disagree here. I was lucky to buy a porsche 912 from 1965 five years ago. canโt complain at all about a 150-200% increase since then. and I had some nice rides in it as well. Respectfully, that doesn't make vintage cars a good investment (and as has been pointed out, they mostly are not, everyone who has even dabbled in that market knows it).
You bought a great little car, easy to find, relatively cheap to maintain, while it was still affordable. The market for the brand of this car has gone apeshit. You made a big profit (of course if you do sell it you will find you don't get exactly those crazy figures being thrown around, but still a very good profit).
Doing this on one one car, with a bit of luck is cool. But if it was an investment strategy, you need to sell this car now, and do it again on 5 cars you will buy with the profits...and this it where it goes pear shaped. You will discover how fickle the markets are, you will have huge bills on some of your cars, you will start to feel the burn, and you will want out. That is how it goes for most people...
All in, have fun in the 912, they are cracking little porkers !

All in, have fun in the 912, they are cracking little porkers ! hi matt,
sounds like you have quite some knowledge about vintage cars.
to be completely honest, the 912 was my first (and as of today my only) vintage buy and I might have been really lucky about the appreciation of 911 and 912 values since 2012. couldn't make any mistakes with this buy, especially as it is from the first 1500 built that have quite some rare features (painted dashboard, outdoor temp gauge etc).
to your point regarding investment strategy, needing to sell this and do it with 5 more cars: I disagree because of a) I still see this as a blue chip investment, so I am in longterm. the values probably won't go down significantly, but maybe will plateau for a bit now. but who knows what will happen when the chinese vintage car market will open...I see some nice upside potential there. b) my son is 3 years old now and as every boy quite interested in cars generally and fast/cool cars especially. I am really looking forward to take him out for father-son weekend rides coming summer. so there is quite some emotional "profit" to be made as well.
furthermore I think that there are still lots of cars out there (vintage and cars from the 80s and 90s) that have a big value potential. in order to not make a buy a bad investment there are some things I learned and that also make sense for vintage watch buyings (or art buys ;-)): 1. you buy the seller. 2. do your homework beforehand, i.e. due diligence. with cars: a thorough pre-purchase-inspection by an real expert of that car. 3. buy the best condition you can afford.
last not least: a father of a friend told me that the best investment he ever made was buying (and still keeping and driving) a mercedes pagode. and this guy has many investments in all asset classes and made quite a fortune with them...
luftgekรผhlte grรผsse! (air cooled greetings)

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by Matt on Jan 6, 2018 12:29:02 GMT 1, sircoxson you make some valid points, but also rely on a fair bit of survivor bias (the 2 cars you cite are crazy succรจs stories, but statistically the market is unlike these 2 and factually most money invested in it is not recouped)
That is not to say some people have not succeeded in making huge moolah in the market (before it crashes periodically and starts another cycle), and they get to drive cool cars whilst doing it.
But the norm is not huge money in vintage car as an asset class
Interesting that you point to your kids, because they may well be never able to drive your car ! Pundits in the market fear one massive โblack swanโ so to say, in the fact that personal vehicles running on fossil fuel (yes, even air cooled !!) are being and will further be regulated against (see Paris), and could be increasingly banned outside of private meets.
China already has a massive congestion issue with cars so this fully applies to them as well.
In any case, in the interim just drive it like you stole it. You will never regret pushing a car to its limits, only leaving it in the garage (like art in folder you say ? Pah ! Who does that ?)
