Artists who you have commissioned , by Philippe on Jan 18, 2018 21:31:39 GMT 1, Hi Treweman,
What I mentioned speaks more to abstract artists but if the artist you commissioned already executed the image you like recently then you should be good. I understand how certain images translate better at different sizes but I think you have a good idea of what you're getting into. I wouldn't worry, let excitement be your main emotion here.

Artists who you have commissioned , by nandaman on Jan 18, 2018 23:46:07 GMT 1, I've had commissions by Miss Bugs (x2, on aluminum and a resin piece) Pahnl FinDac Eelus Alexander Codd (acodd03 on instagram) Helen Martin (elly_what_the_funk on instagram) Jason Skeldon (jasonskeldon on instagram) and had some discussions with Faith47, dotdotdot, Martin Whatson, and others
I love commission work. Meaningful, original and often not as expensive as you might think - depending on the artist, etc.

Artists who you have commissioned , by mose on Jan 19, 2018 0:38:58 GMT 1, I've done three commissions, two back in 2007 and one in 2012. Two(Fairey, Darmstaedter) were through their studios and I never spoke with them directly. Parla was straight with him and involved two very enjoyable studio visits.
All three got done within 6-8 months of finalizing terms. Fairey was pay upon shipping, Parla was 50% deposit/50% at pick-up, and Darmstaedter was pay upon completion.
Jose Parla, Personal Gestures from a World Citizen 2008, 6'x4', mixed media on wood
Shepard Fairey Marilyn Warhol Canvas Unique 2008, 60"x44", mixed media on canvas
Nick Darmstaedter, Dr. Octopus 2013, oxidized copper on canvas diptych, 5'x4' each panel

One part of it is having 2 of my best friends painted in the size and style of his Lil Homies, for their 40 th birthdays, which I really like as they are a real personal gift. Surprisingly cheap too. What an amazing idea for a gift! Brilliant. We will do that for your 80th, Coach !

Artists who you have commissioned , by Dive Jedi on Jan 19, 2018 4:05:37 GMT 1, I've commissioned Futura a handful of times as I've worked with him over the years. Sometimes the work is mind blowing and some times it's not quite there. Best advice with commissions is know exactly what you want and what the artist is doing at the moment. Recreating the past never really works. Yeah, this is true. I have done commissions with several artists and most are quite open to your suggestions. However, this will basicly mean they will paint what you want. Not sure who said it and what the exact quote was, but I've read somewhere you will end up with mediocracy.
So I try to let the artist do what they want, I just mention I'm not a big fan of green or yellow. With stencil work you get the image you want anyway, so some surprise will be nice. In my experience you will end up with a great piece.
And I think the artist will appreciate the freedom and trust and will make his/her best effort that way and might something new or special.

Artists who you have commissioned , by Dive Jedi on Jan 19, 2018 4:18:27 GMT 1, One of my favourite commisions is by Herman Brood, our famous Dutch painter and rock 'n roll hero. I wanted an Original birthcard for our son, but couldn't find anything in print shops. So I went to the Herman Brood gallery which had his studio at the back. I asked the gallery dude if Herman could do it, but was told Herman was very busy preparing for his German tour and also had a new girlfriend (which was accompanied by a well known gesture....). So I was a bit bummed and just started browsing the gallery. Then there was a knock on the studio door and the guy went in to ask what Herman wanted. He came back and said : I have asked for you. Do you have cash on you? Herman needs cash. As I just happened to get money from the ATM to pay for wall papering the baby room I replied I did. So the guy said: Then Herman can do it now. He walked back in with an A3 paper. And 20 minutes later he walked out with this. "Veilig aangeland" means "Safely landed" .
Herman only made 2 birth cards; one for his best friend Bart Chabot and one for me. His drummer used mine. His wife was my collegue and asked for it.
I'm not really the fanboy type, but I do really miss Herman. He was a proper One of a Kind. Very smart and funny guy too.

Artists who you have commissioned , by maxs13 on Jan 19, 2018 18:12:24 GMT 1, After reading this, I wonder if I’m headed for disappointment. I saw a drawing/sketch that I liked by a popular artist, tried to buy it but was too late. So, I contacted the artist and arranged for him to turn the sketch into an acrylic painting. Because I was very concerned about colors, it was understood that I would have some input in regard to color choices. As for the image, I like it so much that I wanted no changes. Following what you wrote, I know exactly what I want, the image is current, but I am requesting an already created image to be redone in a different medium in a larger size. Thought? On this note, I really loved the 1/1 John Doe "Fracture" piece and contacted him asking if he could create another in a different color. He was incredibly nice and easy to work with... asked me for a couple of color preferences, etc. After about a month or two I got an email from him saying he had created a new "Fracture" and that I had first dibs if I wanted it. Really reasonable price too.
One of my favorite pieces.

Artists who you have commissioned , by Deleted on Jan 19, 2018 20:58:39 GMT 1, About two years ago I had the idea to have a commission done by ZED1 and got in touch with him directly. He worked out a Pinocchio piece using his style (it was left up to him, and I only inquired if he would be interested in the topic). The piece turned out to be absolutely amazing, and is the first thing people speak of in my apartment.
Unbelievably nice guy and easy guy to work with, also included sketches of the original draft, in a professionally packaged rolled tube.
I could not have asked for a better experience, piece of art, or artist to deal with.

Artists who you have commissioned , by moron on Feb 19, 2018 15:02:44 GMT 1, not bad but the wrong style of signature for 51 You sure about that? From what I can see of the signature i'm very sure. Picasso might have written his name large in that style on a poster etc he designed and often he would also sign his name smaller and in a different way. In 51 he did not sign in that style. The signature on your drawing looks circa 1903 or 15 as a signature that Picasso used. Also whenever Picasso made a quickie drawing and gave it to someone he would usually date it with day month and year, plus often annotate it. Apart from that the faun depicted in the drawing, the head is from Picasso's style circa 1937 and 40.

Honestly its a great way of getting artwork you like but something that's personal to you. I had RoboJ do a commission and both my wife and I are still really happy with the whole experience. He came and installed it as well which was a big distance. Thats a link to a post of some pics at the time.
