Can you make a folded poster, fully repaired?, by hoolz on Feb 22, 2018 23:46:20 GMT 1, Have you looked into linen backing?
Standard practice with movie posters. I have a few that have been linen backed and the results can be very impressive.

Not something you’d ever want to do with a valuable print you’d like to resell. But probably the most realistic solution to “making a folded poster fully repaired”.
If it’s a don’t panic or stik book print, dry mounting is probably the only way you’ll ever not be able to see creases. But at that, calling it fully repaired is only in terms of its appearance, since it basically completely kills the value.

Yes, totally agree....don't go near the linen if it's a print, but I got the impression from the OP that it was a poster and assumed it to be something like a vintage UK quad cinema poster that would've been issued folded. BTW I don't think that linen backing (if it's done professionally) necessarily devalues a poster, but I think that a future buyer would be wary that it's masking previous damage (tears, etc).

Can you make a folded poster, fully repaired?, by mawk on Feb 23, 2018 15:00:31 GMT 1, "Linen backing (linen mounting) offers a conservation method for restoring and preserving collectible items on paper. It is ideal for film, travel and advertising posters, closing tears, restoring worn folds and flattening folded posters. These guys are pretty good at linen backing posters and restoring them to their former glory. The website is a little basic to say the least, but the results are impressive. The process certainly doesn't devalue the poster. It's certainly worth giving them a call or pop in if you're ever in London.

Can you make a folded poster, fully repaired?, by NYart on Feb 23, 2018 15:11:16 GMT 1, Id say whether or not it devalues the poster is highly subjective and dependent upon the poster/print. Does it devalue movie posters? Maybe not as it’s something more accepted in those circles. However if you were to linen back a Banksy, Id say there would be few who’d touch it with a 10 foot pole. Just a disclaimer, for those reading this thread with other things needing repair.

Can you make a folded poster, fully repaired?, by hoolz on Feb 23, 2018 15:31:29 GMT 1, I had these two posters linen backed (funnily enough by the guys listed above). They did a truly fantastic job as both posters were not only folded into quarters but covered in tiny creases, a bit like tissue paper. They are lithos printed onto very thin newsprint and about 40 years old! The poster on the left was missing about an inch off the bottom too, which was repaired and replaced almost seamlessly. For those that don't know, the off white linen backing is visible as it protrudes from the back of the poster for about an inch all the way round. This obviously frames out and you are left with a beautiful flat finish to the image.
I love these posters....Bob Peak was the man!

Can you make a folded poster, fully repaired?, by coopcoop on Feb 23, 2018 15:52:31 GMT 1, Question was asked because was wondering about doing this for the George Condo/ Runaway poster from the Kanye LP, which was folded into four.
