New Banksy rat in NYC, by Jimmy Oscar on Mar 15, 2018 0:42:05 GMT 1, I bought my first Banksy when I lived 2 mins away from this - on 13th and 6th.
This was a HSBC branch until last year, been unoccupied for a while now which is rare in this part of town.
And this is a super busy junction - no idea how he got up there without anyone spotting him. For those that have visited NYC - it's three blocks west from Union Square.
Someone out there must have a photo of it being put up.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by Dexter Bulldog on Mar 15, 2018 0:52:27 GMT 1, Fun.
By the way that intersection is never not busy. I don’t care if it’s 3am there’s always lots of people on the streets over there and a lot of car traffic. Sure that’s the case in a lot of manhattan but that spot would be pretty easy to get spotted on a ladder up there.
Fun.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by floatingtrees on Mar 15, 2018 2:13:24 GMT 1, Weird I cross this intersection every morning around 8:30am and this morning there was some dude in a dark colored hoodie hanging out in front of the graffiti/doorway - looked a bit scary. I kept looking over at him as I waited for the light to change and he was staring back - he was watching everyone walking by. I didn't notice the clock and kept walking to work - haha.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by jimbofatz on Mar 15, 2018 13:16:04 GMT 1, This is really bad placement as far as keeping the narrative of Banksy going. This is so obviously not done by the one man vigilante Exit through the gift shop portrayed.
It is also getting almost zero press in the states. I've gotten a lot of hate for this in the past on this board but I think this piece proves my point. The mystery artist thing is not aging well. I really hope an end is near for Banksy before this gets ridiculously bad.
3D is Banksy.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by jimbofatz on Mar 15, 2018 13:49:26 GMT 1, I will try again. No one believes the narrative created in Exit Through the Gift Shop anymore. Banksy is becoming to good at what he does and is in turn exposing "BANKSY".
He's clearly not the one man in the hood that made him so popular. He is now the rich guy with a team painting a rat on a clock in the most expensive and guarded area of New York City. He's not fooling anyone and that was the magic. GO and try to duplicate that piece you'll be shot.
It's turning into a farce. No one could get away with half thes**t he does.
In my opinion it's time people take the credit they deserve for being involved in Banksy before it becomes a footnote that is no longer fooling anyone.
Banksy is the Pro Wrestling of Graffiti.
It WAS brilliant but now it's over.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by jimbofatz on Mar 15, 2018 14:18:53 GMT 1, ... there was always a number of people painting with banksy ... you seem to be getting very excited about nothing ... I understand that he was always part of a crew. However, that was never mentioned in the film that popularized him. There were ZERO mentions of any crews in exit through the gift shop. This is a well known point that has been brought up by others.
I am attempting to make a point from the view of the majority of the population the ones that turned him into a house hold name. The banksy that was part of a crew is completely different to the banksy 99% know. Its the vigilante graffiti artist that is popular...and it's my point that pieces like this one kill the mystique.

I can't see why it would need to be. Invader does this kind of placement all the time and rarely gets caught.

No one will believe anything in this entire scene. it's already a fringe art scene. What he did was brilliant but it's over and can ruin everything for others.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by .dappy on Mar 15, 2018 14:43:11 GMT 1, ... how exactly would he be taking a lot of other artists in the scene down with him and 'ruin everything for others'?
... it is not rocket science that his paintings would need more than one person to complete ... never mind hold the ladder ... so to speak ...
... and 'the scene' already knows ...

Really?
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, KAWS, Banksy, Shepard Fairey............... not IMO.

My point is there's a lot of things about Banksy that could be considered misleading and in the art world that usually never gets spun in a positive light (who did what, who sprayed what, why the signature change, who is involved, who signed which set of prints, how is he doing so many different art mediums etc.) .
My point is that I think this thing has to be dismantled as carefully as it was put together. Or everyone who gained from this surge in popularity could lose from it.
But hey: Agree to disagree as they say.

New Banksy rat in NYC, by Deleted on Mar 15, 2018 16:10:11 GMT 1, This is really bad placement as far as keeping the narrative of Banksy going. I honestly fear for your sanity when you find out he isn't 3D. You're like a dog with a Robert Del Naja shaped bone! Your commitment is however undeniably commendable!
