Working out exchange rates and fees - PayPal etc, by Happy Shopper on Mar 25, 2018 17:44:13 GMT 1, Does anyone have a good system, or online calculator, to work out how much you get in ยฃ if someone pays you in $.
I've been reading the PayPal fees pages, but it's quite confusing... Is there a simple calculation?
(Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but if it's useful maybe it could be a sales section sticky!?)

One dollar today will give you 0.71 sterling, you might get a little better or even worse depending on the bank

I've been reading the PayPal fees pages, but it's quite confusing... Is there a simple calculation? (Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but if it's useful maybe it could be a sales section sticky!?) Well, PayPal takes about 5% as a fee. So if paid $ 1.000 you will receive about $ 950
They also have a rather expensive currency rate. A dollar is about GPB 0,707 now. So PayPal will use a rate of about GPB 0,65 or 0,66
Leaving you with 950 x 0,66 = GPB 627
So basicly you get screwed twice.
This calculation depends on the current rate of course, which you can find here: www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=GBP&view=1D

Working out exchange rates and fees - PayPal etc, by Dive Jedi on Mar 25, 2018 18:00:11 GMT 1, My advice of the day :
In case you plan to buy new stuff in US$ ask to be paid in US$. So you will not lose in the currency exchange when receiving your payment AND you will not pay any currency exchange when you purchase your new item.

I sold a fairly high value print last year. Seller paid in my local currency even though the price was in USD, and I lost quite a bit to currency conversion.
Also, I use this to calculate fees etc paypalfeecalculator.paymentprocessing.cc/

Working out exchange rates and fees - PayPal etc, by NYart on Mar 26, 2018 9:27:09 GMT 1, Getting a credit card or debit card without foreign transaction fees is worth it too. I would always get dinged for $10-20 minimum for small pieces.

Working out exchange rates and fees - PayPal etc, by tito on Mar 27, 2018 6:40:23 GMT 1, Iโve bought a few items from international members and found the exchange calculators to be useless. I always wound up being a few dollars short and had to send the remaining balance in a second transaction. A little embarrassing but sellers were understanding since I was usually of by only $10-15 which isnโt much.

I usually agree a sales price with a US buyer and find I lose out with unexpected Paypal fees. I still have no idea how to work it out!!
What I need is a simple calculation, like:
$ Transferred - 0.5%(International fee) - 3.4% fee (depending on amount) - Exchange rate % = What you actually get in ยฃ!
Anyone smart enough to work this out?
