Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Express Post on Dec 15, 2019 0:36:07 GMT 1, It is earned. Started from the bottom now three quarters of the way to the top. Are you a print buyer?
Thanks for sharing your experience. I recognise conditions were tough. But the choice was made to stand out there and brave the weather. It's not on the gallery to work that shįt out. People have only got themselves to blame for not being weather ready. We all knew it was coming, it was in every bulletin and forecast. Adulting can be hard sometimes. As a VIP I can say that we appreciate the preferential treatment. We spend the tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands on the gallery's other artists that print buyers don't spend money on. We basically keep the lights on at the gallery. We are an integral part of the gallery's business as opposed to a print buyer that hits them up once every blue moon. Yeh, your experience sucked. I was in your place once upon a time. Hated it and went out and did something about it. “As a VIP”. Oh mate.

Oli is a real lovely person, super polite nice guy. The print is amazing, just as all the canvas at the show. But the whole Kostyal release procedure was really weak. People waited in the cold the whole day long, soaked in rain, wet clothes.. As the show finally opened, the queuing people still had to wait, as about 30-40 VIP guests were allowed to go inside first. Staff treated the queuing people really poor, impolite arrogant Kostyal people. Not Olis fault, he was amazing, but I hope he finds a better gallery to represent his work.
Only someone who definitely isn't a VIP would make a ridiculous post like that

Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Express Post on Dec 15, 2019 4:18:07 GMT 1, Sigh. No secrets on how to become a vip. Idiots feel that the gallery should roll out the red carpet straight away.
To get invited as a vip, either work in the industry as a curator, buy a truckload of art, be a writer for a decent art website or publication or do something to benefit the arts industry other than your own self interest (Shout out to the flippers, yo!). Work it out. You're all tax paying adults ffs!

If being VIP important to you.

Whilst I appreciate the comment, I'm more of a lurker than contributor - there's far more knowledgeable people adding way more content than me.
Totally agree with your second point.

Some UK guys came there at 5 AM, just put them on a list at 9,10,11 AM and tell them to come back at 5 PM to purchase the print and enjoy the show - without wet clothes and frostbitten fingers.
@carlkostyal: Feel free to contact me for some advice how to not treat fans of one of your artists like shit. Or how to properly handle a print release. Or how to exchange your cocky staff.

If you want to show up that early you need to do your time. Stand out there and suffer. I'd be offended if the gallery handed out tickets. You deserve frostbite and hypothermia.

Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Terry Fuckwitt on Dec 15, 2019 13:17:17 GMT 1, There is nothing wrong about giving family, friends and even "VIPs" the first entrance of the show - but come on mate, there is no reason for letting grown men and women queue for up to 13 hours soaking wet in the cold rain, this was no Adidas Yeezy Boost release, we are talking about the release of an art print. Some UK guys came there at 5 AM, just put them on a list at 9,10,11 AM and tell them to come back at 5 PM to purchase the print and enjoy the show - without wet clothes and frostbitten fingers. @carlkostyal: Feel free to contact me for some advice how to not treat fans of one of your artists likes**t. Or how to properly handle a print release. Or how to exchange your cocky staff.
It's always a tricky one to try and do what's best, as you're always going to have someone complain. At what point would you start handing out queuing tickets? If I turned up the day before, should I get one? If the queue went beyond 100 people, then tickets could be handed out, but I don't they got to these numbers until just before doors opened. I hate queuing and personally wouldn't stand and wait for any longer than 2 hours on a good day unless it was a Banksy.

Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Express Post on Dec 15, 2019 13:17:35 GMT 1, That's funny. I guess it's better to leave them in the dark on how to game the system. That's more art for us that are woke. Enjoy the queues and waitlists y'all.
All really cringy, I’m amazed that someone would actually write this stuff without feeling a massive weapon. You’re not “b1tch slapping” anything out of anyone, you’re just showing yourself up.

Or how to properly handle a print release. Or how to exchange your cocky staff. Your sense of entitlement is shocking. The gallery doesn't owe you a pleasant experience. They don't need to run things according to how you think they should be. You willingly chose to stand out in atrocious weather from 5AM for something that went on sale at 5:30PM. If you want to show up that early you need to do your time. Stand out there and suffer. I'd be offended if the gallery handed out tickets. You deserve frostbite and hypothermia. What kind of nonsense argumentation is this? Sure they don't owe me or someone else, I'm aware of that, just saying that the whole release was handled like a joke.
"Stand out there and suffer." ... "You deserve frostbite and hypothermia."
I'm done here. Oli is a great guy and the print is amazing, happy I could purchase one.

I'd appreciate it if you would keep posting about how entitled you are. Tell us what else the gallery should do to accommodate your being mental and fear of missing out. Perhaps rent a port-a-potty, a three-course lunch, habd massages, foot rubs and a hot drink an hour?

Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by sircoxson on Dec 15, 2019 14:12:53 GMT 1, If it means skipping the queues and waitlists, and being offered works by in demand artists from top galleries, what's not to like about being VIP? Curator or writer/critic--you know, things that can provide benefit to a gallery, don't take tons of $$$--probably a good starting point. If being VIP important to you. #jabjabjabrighthook
trolling like there is no tomorrow. troll is a tool that gets aroused by trolling pejac for ages. now a new artist to spend his precious time with. just ignore, folks...

Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Pjam on Dec 15, 2019 14:15:05 GMT 1, I’ve been following Oli since Multitasking and while I enjoy his work, I believe he’s another UAA/IG hype artist. I don’t have the time or patience to sit around firing off emails and DMs hoping to get special treatment.

Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Deleted on Dec 15, 2019 14:31:50 GMT 1, It is earned. Started from the bottom now three quarters of the way to the top. Are you a print buyer?
Am I a buyer of Oli Epp’s prints or generally? I own one Epp print, Pride. I prefer his autobiographical work and that one is the most interesting, for me. I didn’t try for this one as the image doesn’t say anything to me.
I’m more prints than originals anyway. I’ve no doubt you’re much wealthier than I am, which I’m fine with. I’m doing ok and my focus isn’t on getting ‘to the top’. I’m not sure how you’d even measure being 75% there. I buy art I like and put it on my walls. Some of it cost me a few thousand, but most of it far less. I’m certainly not on Oli Epp’s list of important clients, but that’s not really a goal either. Quite happy being a regular fan.
Self-identifying as a VIP just seemed a bit embarrassing.
