*Edit, I didn't even know what that word meant, I did search for it, wasn't sure if it was in the right context or not but seems to be π€£ Think I got an E in English GCSE π€£π€£π»
Always gonna be VIPs about, us guys lower down on the food chain just have to crack on. At least we're all in a position to be able to buy prints from time to time though. I don't let myself get any envy from others who are in that position, that's just how the world works.

Oli Epp π¬π§ Post-Digital Pop β’ New Painting β’ Art For Sale, by Dive Jedi on Dec 15, 2019 17:15:49 GMT 1, There is nothing wrong about giving family, friends and even "VIPs" the first entrance of the show - but come on mate, there is no reason for letting grown men and women queue for up to 13 hours soaking wet in the cold rain, this was no Adidas Yeezy Boost release, we are talking about the release of an art print. Some UK guys came there at 5 AM, just put them on a list at 9,10,11 AM and tell them to come back at 5 PM to purchase the print and enjoy the show - without wet clothes and frostbitten fingers. @carlkostyal: Feel free to contact me for some advice how to not treat fans of one of your artists likes**t. Or how to properly handle a print release. Or how to exchange your cocky staff. Your sense of entitlement is shocking. The gallery doesn't owe you a pleasant experience. They don't need to run things according to how you think they should be. You willingly chose to stand out in atrocious weather from 5AM for something that went on sale at 5:30PM. If you want to show up that early you need to do your time. Stand out there and suffer. I'd be offended if the gallery handed out tickets. You deserve frostbite and hypothermia. I'm agreeing with Poster Blob more often lately. Should I worryβ¦..?

I'm just saying, earn your stripes. Now gonna go watch the gunners get thumped by the sky blues.

Oli Epp π¬π§ Post-Digital Pop β’ New Painting β’ Art For Sale, by nighthawk on Dec 15, 2019 17:53:31 GMT 1, Iβve been following Oli since Multitasking and while I enjoy his work, I believe heβs another UAA/IG hype artist. I donβt have the time or patience to sit around firing off emails and DMs hoping to get special treatment.
This he is not. He may have started that way (very briefly), but now his paintings are going into some pretty big collections.
Unlike Pejac, heβs actually repped by galleries, and shown at the fairs. Time will tell, but for a young artist, heβs off to a strong start.

Untitled (Art Basel Miami, 2018) and ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair, 2019.
Maybe more?

The purchase line for the prints were very slow so if they came just for the show then whats the issue. If they were buying prints then yes that's bad but I dont think this was happening. I didnt see any issues around this....
the issue I witnessed was a guy getting shouted at by the gallery owner for having his bag on the floor against the wall in the gallery, aswell as one of the prints he just purchased leaned against the wall. (not harming anyone). It was really disgusting and I was so shocked by the way it was said and the choice of words.

Just a guess, but perhaps the gallery owner wanted a higher brow event and was put off by the queue itself.

I chatted to the security guy and was told that some people for the show, were coming in and then picking up the print - jumping ahead of those who were there throughout the day.

I believe the situation could have been solved better, but it's over now, and as far as I know everyone who had been queuing up did leave with a print.

Oli Epp π¬π§ Post-Digital Pop β’ New Painting β’ Art For Sale, by moron on Dec 17, 2019 16:54:41 GMT 1, So no talk discussion about the artist and the technique etc etc.
Just a lot of moaning about waiting outside in the rain being attacked by ice bears and cod from the wavenado climate erupting flip flopping versus the entitled vipsters.
So anyway, the technique used by Oli seems a very simple acrylic? stencil stencil and airbrush or spray method with a bit of oil paint hand finishing here and there.
It's very simple and he has made it go a long way.
The galleristas call it "post digital" or something similar and Oli is in charge of something called Plop Academy too whatever that might be.
The gallery looks after people with money and seems to be marketing Oli vigourously.
Even though annually, galleries can make more profit from prints than from originals, it could be this gallery is trying to push up the prices of originals and to get in to view, people with lots of money.
I would imagine that the gallery takes the largest percentage of the selling price of a painting, which in some locations is as high as 70%.
Is Oli under contract or a free agent?

The gallery looks after people with money and seems to be marketing Oli vigourously.
Even though annually, galleries can make more profit from prints than from originals, it could be this gallery is trying to push up the prices of originals and to get in to view, people with lots of money.
I would imagine that the gallery takes the largest percentage of the selling price of a painting, which in some locations is as high as 70%.
Is Oli under contract or a free agent?

Joy Labinjo has a show at the Baltic and did ok at Frieze. UAA members, and cook groups reading, please don't go Oli on her arse.

That said, my money is on Katrin Fridriks for the win and Tracey Emin is disgustingly undervalued.

Oli Epp π¬π§ Post-Digital Pop β’ New Painting β’ Art For Sale, by Express Post on Dec 17, 2019 23:10:28 GMT 1, Some fcktards made a lot from Julie Curtiss, Shara Hughes, Jordan Casteel, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Avery Singer. Averys that cost $30k went for $750k after holding for 2-3 years. Njideka's work that cost $60k in 2015 sold of $2million years later. Since no one is giving me any of their money, I don't give a fuc*k how people spend it. It's yours, you do what you want. If your money is on Fridriks, so be it.
