Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Pistol on Feb 12, 2016 14:33:06 GMT 1, My understanding is gold, pink, purple and red artist's proofs were produced each as an edition of 22, so, 88 in all, priced at £35k + VAT, all included COA's. I think they were printed and available before and during the Dismaland show to VIP's only. Anyone please correct me if i'm wrong.
The gold was issued way before Dismaland. I know that for a fact.....

£3,080,000 from a 88 run print drop. Fair play!
Keep it Real, indeed.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by toshspice on Feb 12, 2016 14:57:13 GMT 1, Are artist proofs supposed to be produced at the same time as the regular edition run? If produced 10 years after the original edition , is that not bad play ? Or even a few months after an edition has sold out. All artists can extend editions if a print is popular by labelling as an ap? If it was any other artist doing this , the discussion would be different . Happens all the time in the artworld. There's a famous story about a world-renowned artist who, on hearing a collector wanted to buy one of his sculptures for several million dollars long after the edition had sold out, popped another one out, declared it an AP and sold it at secondary market value.

That is insane when you look at it that way. I remember when getting a Banksy print was a good old bun fight or via the lottery (which was the only time I was lucky) .At those prices and the fact it is all selected customers you start to look at Banksy in a whole different light.
Anyway sorry to detract from the thread.

You might. Or, you might think that Dismalland was a lot of fun for an awful lot of us, for next to nothing.

Coach I have no doubt there was some extremely hi costs involved in the putting together and running of Dismaland and that has to be recouped somewhere.
Also I agree that there was an opportunity given to us all for a Banksy curated show for next to nothing how ever that isn't my point.
My point is with regards the release of work which now seems to be a closed shop. I stand to be corrected but the last readily made available work to the public was CYW which was over 5 years ago. Evidently the business model has changed.

I like to think of it as a transference of wealth. If, in these times of widespread hardship, some people are willing to spend £35,000 on a piece of paper to decorate their hallway with, then they probably shouldn't be in charge of that kind of money. Best that someone else has it.
And it is insane. But that's art. And life. And life is art. Or something like that.
£42k inc vat

Not so much the cash grab element , years after a edition has sold out some people paid a high price on the secondary market for the original editions and original aps as for the exclusivity / rare / scarce print , adding more would reflect in lower pricings for the previous buyers as more on the market and the new prints in better condition as the originals were so cheap that most did not keep them in pristine condition?
All good, but like most things filters down from the top , as he's top of this scene can see others doing the same
