I initially dismissed it as a bit chintzy but as Banksy doesn't do chintz then figured there was more to it. It's actually quite a anti consumerist message not dissimilar to "Christ with Shopping bags", the heart is such a powerful motif in our culture that we forget it's an inflatable balloon in the pic. Possibly one of the most cynical kids items out there, anyone with kids can tell you what a pain they are to come across. It's akin to the sweet rack at kids height at the supermarket checkout. You can't replace real love and attention with a shiny 5 quid inflatable balloon, and besides, it'll be gone in 60secs. Give her a real hug instead. Stressed or not. |

It always happens in evey commodity. Warhol rose for 10 full years before taken a dive...its inevitable, its how far prices will fall and when are the questions? no sign of any bubble bursting yet, and anyone that thinks this isnt a bubble is just stupid!
i think the unsigned GWB became over priced at ยฃ10k, anyone buying at current levels would need to either really really love the print or not really care about price fluctuation...which i fully support, anyone buying to speculate and cash in would need to be carefull....

I actually decided not to buy one anymore after setting aside what I though was a good budget of 12k
Missed out on 3 in 2 weeks for different reasons - all these mis hit were not my fault.
Someone offered me one at 14k this week but it comes a time when you say stop his is enough

How about using the term for the "foreseeable future" (lying within the range for which forecasts are possible) Anything can happen, but as stated, unless there is a large change in demand and or supply I can't see the price trajectory changing for the foreseeable future.

What I mean is, if you go online and look at many of the websites that have compiled images of Banksy's work, both inside and out, the shows, the installations, it's an amazing body of work. There's loads of it. So much. I know there's only a finite amount of official Banksy souvenirs you can buy, so people trade and collect those, get excited over them, etc, but I just sometimes feel like people only ever talk about the same handful of images and their current value. Having said that, everyone can buy what they like. 'tis a free planet. |

as someone who sometimes does this stuff for a living, I would be pretty wary of this kinda visual without a full breakdown of the sources

the points are interesting though and there is correlation between these markets, but yer sample size and lack of transparency/ data for art sales as a whole should be taken into account. There is a PhD somewhere I read recenly on this, but will have to track it down and post up the linky- IIRC, bonds are a better benchmark to use than indices( through bonds and indices are inextricably related).
as a sales tool though, it is probabaly something i can see a gallery rolling out in its maketing / sales bumf .
anyway, this is a massive subject and will note bore anyeone with ramblings
