1) I could put a turd on ebay for 100k but does it really make it worth that much?
2) even if the print sells for 60k, does it mean there is one desperate sucker out there or could we sell another one at 60k again. I tend to remember a crazy CYW auction price earlier this year that was then followed by more "normal prices" later.
3) I do agree about GWB being his most iconic work and do feel it will hit this level eventually but seems a bit too much/too soon to me. the amount of buyer that can pony up 500 bucks vs 60k is quite different. And if I am a high roller with 60k to burn....do I really buy a 150 run print or do I focus on low digit canvas? I think we had three beauties on here for sale at 80k recently and have to imagine those have more upside as a professional art investor (which I am not).

Ones fame don't guarantee that prices goes up in future.
I've made no conclusions on future prices, simply that comparing Picasso prints with banksy prints doesn't work.

As Dr Jimmy says it is Lionel Gallery in Holland, not a scammer. I bought a LIITA unsigned from him in summer and everything was fine, print was pristine and packaged flat extremely securely.,
He was looking for around £3k more than what Hang up and Newartonline were asking for same print and once i pointed that out the price dropped to much the same as their prices over one or two emails ! No doubt there is a bit to be bartered off of these quoted prices.

I don't think it would be a full on shift, but if I had a GWB on display right now, I'd be very interested to see how this does given the visibility and asking price. |
