New Banksy in Paris???, by Rouen Cathedral on Jun 28, 2018 13:45:33 GMT 1, i simply do not understand why some stupid people would even consider defacing or covering up a Banksy painting?
If you don't understand this I might question if being a fan of street art is for you.
I simply don't understand how people ignore the foundation and concept of street art when they complain about artists painting on walls.

New Banksy in Paris???, by shy on Jun 28, 2018 13:47:38 GMT 1, yes but Banksy is much more than just an artist!
Street artists should respect each other and at very least respect Banksy.
Don't paint over or deface a Banksy. It's just plain selfish and daft!

New Banksy in Paris???, by Hairbland on Jun 28, 2018 14:33:59 GMT 1, Or any artworks of graffiti/street-artists. Respect Isn’t it a given though that as soon as you have finished painting, it’s fair game for anyone to paint over? I mean it’s not like they own the wall they choose to deface? Based on the no-talents that do this (hello Omar!) it seems the defacers of Banksy are only looking for their 3-4 minutes of fame (they don't even get 15 minutes) and as evidence of their work have nothing to add to the dialogue.

This makes no sense.
Banksy is an artist.
Claiming only banksys work should be saved is nonsense.

New Banksy in Paris???, by Lroy on Jun 28, 2018 16:43:05 GMT 1, Or any artworks of graffiti/street-artists. Respect Isn’t it a given though that as soon as you have finished painting, it’s fair game for anyone to paint over? I mean it’s not like they own the wall they choose to deface? I don't know...
Yes, as sai shy its a banksy in Paris ( historic, the first time apart a little one in Quai d'Orsay ( near the museum, decades ago ) I mean, I have painted on the walls too ( not masterpieces lol but I was happy to see them or to know there was some stillthere - I was also happy that real greatest graffers, were tagging near my artwork and not on, as an hommage or a friendship) ..
And if it is not people spoiling the artworks or defacing it, it could be demolition, destroying walls, or the time and weather too...
I am just asking a bit of time, you see... That people wanting to make idiots or painting just wait a little... why not a month ... But not the day after ?!
What I condamn in this girls is that she is doing it because she is bad in art/streetart and just wants to make the " interesting " girl, for selfies, social media, hypes etc.. It's easy I think. And she know what she is doing : she won't do the same thing in graffiti hip-hop/youths/fonts in the suburbs where there is people that can beat her very hardly. She only makes that in the center of the towns, where there is no danger...

Couldn't that be the art of it?
We have a renowned artist who many on hesr applaud print out others Instagram posts and gets called a genius. But an artist putting art in the street whether it's ugly or not gets called a fool.
Hmmm

New Banksy in Paris???, by moron on Jun 28, 2018 21:40:22 GMT 1, Do you have any facts? How many are refugees and how many are economic migrants? How many of these people have actually registered themselves with any authority and have applied for asylum in France? Asylum seekers have to register in the first safe country they enter. These people are "in a desperate situation". Why is that? Why have they come to Paris? What do they want and what is the end game? I do agree that it is irresponsible of the French government to allow these people to sleep in the street and should provide a place for them to sleep. Plus the French government should process these people by interviewing each one and issuing some form of permit and identity card for each one which includes taking their fingerprints. Leaving them in limbo in the street is no good for anyone. Are these NGO and migrant so called "non profit" ships making money directly or indirectly from providing a free boat service from the shores of Libya and Africa to European shores? Even OFII who are responsible for looking after asylum seekers acknowledge that of the 3000 picked up in the most recent evacuations a significant percentage a) have papers or b) have been kicked out of their accommodation for minor infringements of what are often draconian rules. E.g. you can be kicked out if you let a homeless friend spend the night, you miss the curfew etc etc. But this isn’t a political board. My point was about Banksy doing work to highlight the refugee crisis, whether it should be preserved and commoditised or if it had done it’s job and so no longer needs to exist. So it's OK for Banksy to make political art about refugees etc which is fine as I support freedom of expression.
but it's not OK to raise a few points regarding how many are genuine asylum seekers and how many are just economic migrants and to ask why they are in Paris and where are they heading.
It's good to get some facts at times.

New Banksy in Paris???, by moron on Jun 28, 2018 22:09:08 GMT 1, They might be by banksy but in reality they are not very good, there again they are quick stencils sprayed clandestinely without permission on walls. The rats are sort of banksy branding, the guy feeding the dog it's own leg bone, in my opinion the result of a sick mind and no one has said what it actually means. I don't believe any artist in any medium is supposed to tell you what their art means. That's part of the fun, forming your own opinion and deciding for yourself. I like art that makes me think and in the man/dog piece i happen to see commentary on our exacerbating wealth divide. The man representing the wealthy instead of being nice to those less fortunate, is sawing of their leg (the poor dog in this case) and making them beg in return for their own bone. It is sick as you noted, dark and twisted too but an ugly reality growing worse while lacking empathy. I love that piece and I could be completely wrong regarding the intentions of the artist but that's part of the fun, no? As for the branding statement, I'm simply not as cynical as some of the folks that post here now. I happen to see pure intentions from this artist, same as it ever was really. It's more enjoyable that way. Of course it's branding and marketing.
I think it also depends on the agenda whether an artist should explain what their art means especially when they force the public to view it by painting it large on a wall outside. Inside some poncey gallery where coked up hipster film celeb music types waffle together it's fine if an artists makes some image and pseudo intellectuals mentally masturbate over it's meaning amongst each other.

First off who is Banksy?

New Banksy in Paris???, by moron on Jun 28, 2018 22:29:09 GMT 1, What about the building owners? Are they sleeping? These Banksy's add tremendous value to their buildings. These owners should protect their banksys. It's like they've won a lottery ticket, but the dummies don't seem to do anything? If my building just went up 500k plus cuz of an original Banksy you can bet I would be jumping for joy and get off my butt to protect the artwork So the only thing Banksy art has going for it and the only reason you like Banksy art is because you are a greedy capitalist?

Napoleon in a burka, is how many will see that one and that old chestnut being dragged up about a country's past history means nothing as to what is happening today. The black girl and the swastika a blatant attack on the French being nazis and accusing the French of racism. There again I guess it's just banksy being a provocateur. I'm sure that if the migrants from africa who are in Paris were migrants from say eastern Ukraine where there is a civil war who decided to flee to France etc for economic reasons that there would be hardly any symptahy from the antifa no borders mob. The French have a long deep history of anti-Semitism that continues to run rampant today. Thats a generalisation and the French people are not antisemitic. When you say "the French" who do you mean exactly?
When you say rampant today, maybe you can tell us exactly why the some Jews are leaving Paris.
here is a clue,
"French concerns about antisemitism among second-generation Arab groups is also related to general concerns about Islamic terrorism in the country. In 2015 Paris suffered two major Islamic attacks, which were generally targeted at all French people. In addition, from the end of 2015 into early 2016, there were independent attacks against individual Jews in several cities, including three in Marseilles from October to January." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_21st-century_France
Also have you heard about the mass demonstration in Paris by Chinese migrants who are being attacked and targeted regulary by Arab and African migrants in Paris.

New Banksy in Paris???, by moron on Jun 28, 2018 22:56:24 GMT 1, Let me see, Banksy is a genius to some on here and the young woman Konny deserved what she got when she wheat pasted and taped her art over his which he or his assistants did on a wall in the street.
The young woman Konny Steding was assaulted by some thug by spraying paint from a spray can into her eyes. It makes me wonder how this guy Pimaxart treats women in private.
Then the thug who assaulted her tells people don't worry the paint I used is bio and it's harmless, which I doubt it's bio and doubt it's harmless when sprayed into someones eyes. I contacted the paint company by email so will see what they say about this.
So much for feminism and so much for not supporting thugs who attack women but there again the guy is a "street artist" if one can call his efforts art and the young lady did wheatpaste over millionaire Banksy with a PR teams stencil designed to gain maximum exposure for Banksy in the media. So clearly she got what she desrved.
Talking about wannabees riding on celebrities coat tails, Banksy did that when he targeted Paris Hilton a few years back before finance and PR and media contacts made his name a public brand.
Wheatpasting over others art painted illegaly on walls, oh how bad and deplorable.
It's not as bad as when Banksy destroyed Robbos art to score brownie points.
Banksy and politics oh yeah. Didn't Banksy donate 200K approx towards Ken Livingstones Labour London mayor election campaign.
Hmm I wonder what happened to Red Ken, is he still a leading member of the UK Labour party?
Robbo was right. Banksy is just a toy with a PR team and his paris stunt confirms it.
