New Banksy in Paris???, by stelio on Jun 24, 2018 0:35:14 GMT 1, Banksy must feel intimidated by Pejac... just had to come to Paris during Pejac’s one weekend only show run and tag up Paris with better stencils than he has done in a long time. Touché, Banksy. You win this round. Hope he enjoyed Pejac’s Exhibit at least.

New Banksy in Paris???, by rebate on Jun 24, 2018 0:42:53 GMT 1, Nice work with the research on this - I like it when people chip in with background detail/possible explainers. As an aside, isn’t it brilliant to have Banksy on the streets again. My Instagram feed is full of people discovering his work (and also lots of Pejac)... and then on the flip side there’s numerous pictures of Kaws hanging out with celebrities and working with fashion labels, which does absolutely nothing for me. Nice one, Banksy
Agreed. Im always hugely impressed that he stays true to the cause and keeps trying to wake people up. Having a platform and not kow towing to the money is a quality i admire very much.
id like to have a spliff with him one day, sit by the harbour in Victoria on vancouver island, chat shit and watch the boats n the seals drift around. That would be a pretty cool afternoon to me lol.

New Banksy in Paris???, by nex on Jun 24, 2018 2:36:16 GMT 1, the Napoleon per example ( it will be worth tomorrow as some french newspapers made some articles with the location ) There was not the green paint yesterday http://instagr.am/p/BkXT5gNARDi What's the image mean L Roy Sartre? Is it depicting a woman in a burka on Napoleons horse. The changing face of France?
No that’s not what it’s depicting at all.
Look at the original - the symbolism is of clarity of vision and strength as Napoleon rides on to victory - the national identity (the cloak) heroic and powerful. What does banksys show? The vision obscured, weakness, the supposed / heroic image of the cloak hiding the face. ie. nationalism blinding the greater good.

I have to say this interpretation is pretty offensive - white privilege in full effect.
You’re all missing something clearly present in Banksys - Napoleons legs are clearly present

What the red cloak represents is evidently up for interpretation

Yes. That's it. Or maybe he was intimated by all the attention on the world cup.

Agree
I think this is about “blind” nationalism
One of the best Banksy’s in a while

New Banksy in Paris???, by Deleted on Jun 24, 2018 10:40:10 GMT 1, The bicentennary of the battle of Waterloo is this month. It was the end of Napoleon and Frances reign over a lot of Europe.
At the same time, Napoleon was an immigrant who brought balance and control to France and is considered a hero by many. I think this piece is reminder of that.

Napoléon is born in Corse aka France. Nevemind Italy/Corse. Heroe maybe at the beginning ( because he came after monarchy and revolution ) but he wanted to invade the Europe and the world ! As a conquistador full of victory and imperialism ! He has sent millions of people in his army to the death ! His end was lamentable. He has had all that he merits 👎 www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11472205/The-French-should-end-their-love-affair-with-Napoleon-he-was-an-utterly-brutal-and-callous-dictator.html * said kindly. Just about NB., loved at the beginning and hated at the end.

if im going way off base, help us out, what does it mean then?

Yep, the Nazi wallpaper one has been defaced. I' not sure they realised it was (potentially) a Banksy and just took it at face value.
