Damien Hirst Print As An Investment?, by dantheman8 on Jun 28, 2018 1:07:00 GMT 1, So I have a methylamine 13c Damien Hirst print, its 1/100 and under the light the diamond dust looks amazing. My dealer keeps telling me damien hirst blew his chance and now all the galleries hate him and his prices cant/wont go up, but to me I think he's right there as one of the big names of our time. Do you think the piece by hirst is worth keeping and he'll one day see prints sell in the 6 figure range like warhol or even $50k range like banksy or has he really hurt any chance at future appreciation with his antics. The reason I ask is Im moving soon and I have already been discussing with a good friend of mine to sell most of my art but I've been hesitant to sell my Hirst and want to keep it as I think it has a lot of potential esp now that gagosian picked him up again, I feel like he's gonna make smaller quantity from now on and has learned from the past.
Just curious about your opinions.

Damien Hirst Print As An Investment?, by Dahmer on Jun 28, 2018 8:25:06 GMT 1, i guess thing is there are a lot of hirst prints kicking about.
i dont own anything by hirst but id love one of the spot prints, also to me doesnt really matter which one and if i was bidding on one and lost, i could just find a different one instantly that looks and feels the same, you cant do that with a lot of artists, most artists dont release a hundred different prints that are essentially all the same.
i dont see his work going up massively until the guy finally kicks it, but nothing of his seems to go down in value. as an investment, might as well just buy gold and hope the economy tanks instead, more likely going to make money that way

Keep it if you like the piece. If you want an investment sell it and buy crypto currency.

Damien Hirst Print As An Investment?, by Poster Bob on Jun 28, 2018 9:41:32 GMT 1, Lots of bullshit posts in this thread. I've said it before and I will say it again, Damien Hirst has just made the best decisions of his career: he shut his online shop and went back to doing his work without assistants. The importance of these two events cannot be overstated. Dropping assistants will make the most serious art collectors take note, provide more value to his original works and make them safer, standard investments; people will fight tooth and a nail to get a canvas if he only does a show or two a year and say only two dozen are available. Closing his online shop dramatically limited the supply of his work and erased all of the unwanted tat from his career. In terms of career management, it was a literal stroke of genius.
As an investment, a highly desired spot print is solid, but you can do a lot better. I'd say you're talking at best a 10% increase per year and that will not continue in perpetuity. In art terms though, that's peanuts if you can spot the next big thing. Selling a Hirst to buy Pejac is one of the most idiotic ideas I've ever heard. Pejac is far too early on in his career to see if he'll amount to anything and may be forgotten in two years. The only thing driving his career is people's desire to make money and some two-bit rappers on Instagram. Who the hell on Earth is he to ask for over a grand for a print? NOBODY. That's the answer. If you want to seriously invest in his work do it in a couple years if he's the darling of the art world, a common name and his work is fully mature.

Damien Hirst Print As An Investment?, by shinkaiser on Jun 28, 2018 9:50:03 GMT 1, So I have a methylamine 13c Damien Hirst print, its 1/100 and under the light the diamond dust looks amazing. Damien Hirst Blew His chance? I'm curious to know how exactly...?

how to delete my free aol account
Bob here is the piece, i believe its the only "black" background piece he's ever made btw. My dealer and I were just talking and she was telling me she felt like he damaged his reputation with art galleries and thus they would punish him moving forward and id be better off selling the piece bc she told me while looking around most of the ones she found were $20k or so and thats more than I paid for it. She said I should be buying some nice originals with the money not a print thats all, but to me Hirst is one of the top living people and this "spot" piece is rare by him bc of the diamond dust and color. Thanks for the insights

Damien Hirst Print As An Investment?, by martin0098 on Jun 28, 2018 15:17:38 GMT 1, Lots of bullshit posts in this thread. Totally agree. Before any kind of investment, it is essential to do some thorough analysis.
