Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by funster on May 1, 2008 11:50:21 GMT 1, It makes you think there might have been a mistake on Bonhams part because a) more than one person obviously thought it was signed, b) they were let off from paying. Lovely print though

Yeah, but everyone on here knew it was unsigned and we had access to exactly the same information that anyone who was involved with the auction did.
I remember at the time someone said as a throw-away comment "maybe the buyer thought it was signed" because it went for such a large amount.
I haven't actually heard anyone say that they know this for sure, and now people are saying Bonhams cancelled the sale without any facts to back that up with.
Does anyone actually no for sure that a) the bidder thought it was signed and b) Bonhams cancelled the sale? I'd be really interested to hear.
Thanks.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by jackson.earth on May 1, 2008 13:18:34 GMT 1, I'm sorry to say I dont have any of the answers regarding bonhams as, to be honest, I didnt even know the BME print was sold at that auction. All I did know is the print i have rarely comes on the market, but thanks for all your info - youve all been a great help!
I guess now all ive got to do now is judge a) whether banksys prints will go up in value in the future b)if i even want the money over having a print and c)whether the few of you who are offering me 2.5K for a print people on the same page are saying is worth around 4K can actually read!
I may be ignorant, but im not an idiot!
Thanks again!

a) Almost certainly yes, at least in the space of the next 2 years.
b) Keep it unless you absolutely need the money and have no other way of raising the funds.
c) Just people trying it on - happens all the time.

AUCTION HOUSES ARE NOT THE TOTEM OF PRICE TRANSPARENCY THEY LIKE TO THINK THEY ARE AND HAVE A LONG HISTORY OF PRACTICES THAT ARE NOT IN THE SPIRIT OF AN OPEN AND FAIR MARKET ( EVEN BONGO KNOWS THIS TERM IS AN ANACHRONISM )
BONGO WOULD SUGGEST THAT HAD FINAL BIDDER BEEN A NEWLY REGISTERED UPSTART, THEN HIS PLEAS OF CONFUSION WOULD HAVE CUT LITTLE ICE WITH BONHAMS AND LEGAL ACTION WOULD HAVE SWIFTLY FOLLOWED NON PAYMENT
THE GALLERIES AND HOUSES ARE THERE FOR MANY REASONS, NONE OF WHICH ARE UNTAINTED BY THE FOUL STENCH OF FINANCIAL SELF INTEREST AND SUPPORTING THE INCESTOUS CARTEL THAT IS THE SELF PROCLAIMED FINE ART INDUSTRY

This one isn't a rumour. It's a fact.
As for the under-bidder, who knows? But in an auction room it's easy to get a sense of when bidding is reaching its limits so shilling is pretty easy. This particular bit isn't a fact. I'm speculating.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by BunnyBoiler on May 1, 2008 15:07:16 GMT 1, I would be very surprised if the buyer didn't have to pay in the end... Can't see Bonhams cancelling the sale as the seller would still have to pay for putting the print in the sale. Sounds unbelievable that Bonhams would cancel the bid because the buyer made a mistake and changed his mind. Its not ebay!

BONGO HOWEVER IS MORE THAN AWARE THAT UNLESS ITEM IS SIGNIFICANTLY NOT AS DESCRIBED BY THE AUCTION HOUSE, THEN WINNER IS OBLIGED TO PAY
FURTHER, IF BONGO PLACED A BME AT BONHAMS AND IT REALUISED A GROSS THAT WAS TRIPLE THE USUAL MARKET RATE, BONGO WOULD BE LESS THAN IMPRESSED IF BONHAMS DECIDED NOT TO PURSUE SALE.
BONGO DOES NOT LIVE NEAR A ZILLI RESTURTANT, BUT BONGO SMELL FISH

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by dumpsuk on May 1, 2008 18:46:17 GMT 1, Auction houses are not as strict and as stringent as you all assume. I recently had the opportunity to bid on a print through one of the larger auction houses and due to some confusion surrounding the sale I was not happy to proceed. The auction house were more than happy to cancel my bid after the sale and are willing to re-list the item for the vendor in a forthcoming sale. I think they very seldom take legal action against non-paying bidders.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by funyoung on May 2, 2008 11:34:38 GMT 1, How does everyone know that it wasn't paid for. Is there a secret website with unpaid auction sales on it?
I know you are all saying this is 'fact' but you have presented no evidence. If you are prepared to state that is went unsold as 'fact' then you should be able to provide some evidence. Where is it?

Best thing to do is to just ask them. That's what I did. It's not a big secret. That should give you the evidence that you want.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by weeble on May 27, 2008 16:46:23 GMT 1, Hi peeps. Just wondering - what's the deal with provenance for pieces like Bomb Middle England? I mean, I don't think POW kept records of buyer's names. So is it ideally just the original receipt? I wonder how many people would have the original receipt from such a long time ago. I have a BME, but no receipt. No name was ever kept by POW. Not that I'm ever gonna sell it, but if I wanna buy another older piece, what's the likelyhood of getting any prov with it? Or am I mistaken - is prov pretty common on most items and I am just unlucky! lol

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by Michael Jacob on May 27, 2008 16:55:11 GMT 1, its a long shot, but here it goes.
they really arent worth anything without proof. being the gentleman that I am, I will pay you double what you originally paid for the BME. Im only trying to help a fellow forum member out.
Id also pay 3x the price for a CWB or Kate Moss. Once again, Im only doing this to help out.
