Banksy being restored in Scotland, by irl1 on Aug 7, 2018 19:18:48 GMT 1, An early Banksy mural that was painted over will be restored.
An early work by the secretive street artist Banksy is set to be restored 11 years after it was accidentally painted over with gray emulsion. The installation, which was part of his 2001 “Peace Is Tough” exhibition at Glasgow nightclub The Arches, is made up of three elements: a monkey clad in a tutu and holding a gun; a version of the Mona Lisa; and a text between the two figures that reads: “Every time I hear the word culture I release the safety on my 9mm.”
During refurbishment work in 2007, the only known piece by Banksy in Scotland was mistakenly painted over. It was then left concealed behind paint after the club went into administration in 2015 following financial debts stemming from the the tragic death of 17-year-old Regane MacColl at the venue in February 2014. Last year, administrators said that the £8,364 ($10,900) needed to save the installation hadn’t been raised, it was feared that it might be lost forever.
Now the club’s new owners, Argyle Street Arches, is undertaking a five-month project to restore the installation in partnership with London-based Fine Art Restoration Co (FARCO) and hopes to complete the project by December. Chris Bull, technical director of FARCO, called the project hugely exciting. “We’re bringing three hidden Banksy pieces back to life,” he said, referring to the installation’s three elements.
Members of the public are invited to view the restoration live as work progresses at Argyle Street Arches beginning August 11th. The club owners are still soliciting support for the project through an Indiegogo campaign.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by Riotcops on Sept 18, 2018 12:23:31 GMT 1, I thought I posted this already but saw the restoration a couple weeks ago. They were working on the face and the skirt - with a projection of the final piece. I'll try to get an update this weekend.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by moron on Nov 26, 2018 15:04:37 GMT 1, "Every time I hear the word culture, I release the safety on my 9mm" What a stupid thing to write. Banksy trying to be clever I guess.
Plus the message this text gives out to people today, considering the news stories of mass shootings.
Who would want to preserve this message from Banksy ?
It was better when it was painted over.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by disappointed on Nov 26, 2018 20:17:29 GMT 1, Is this restoration as bad, and pointless, as it looks?
It appears that they are projecting the original work onto the wall with a view to, I assume, painting over the projection. Which would be less a restoration and much more a copy.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by moron on Nov 27, 2018 12:25:03 GMT 1, I hope this is done with a bit more credibility than the Snorting Copper in Shoreditch supposedly lost, forgotten about and miraculously re-discovered last year by art restorers: link Did Banksy or someone with access to the original stencil restore the completely erased snorting copper?

In reality it's a thread about Banksy and what he put on a public wall.
What Banksy wrote is pathetic. Probably watched too many Tarantino films. I don't like guns and I don't like the promotion of gun crime.
I'm sure that many people who walk past Banksy's message on this wall are just as disgusted by his message.
Yes I know forum mods can alter what people post to suit their own agenda because they do not see the big picture.
So much for thinking outside the box.
In your opinion if someone wrote on a wall with a stencil of something, and substituted the word "culture" for religion or any other word that would be fine too because after all it's art?
Banksy criticising culture, what a hypocrit

Although I would imagine the projection is as much to let the restorers know where the original art is as much as show the public?
For me, this sort of thing is a little pointless - what's gone is best left gone, especially when it's not really one of banksy's finest assemblage of images. They might be better just leaving the image projected on to the walls rather than waste the time, effort, and money painstakingly peeling paint off the mural.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by irl1 on Nov 27, 2018 19:39:36 GMT 1, You could say that about any art. What if someone threw paint on the Mona Lisa would they just leave it that way.
Early works by Banksy are becoming very rare and to be honest i would hate to see this one disappear. Too many have been ripped off walls or destroyed

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by disappointed on Nov 28, 2018 2:46:52 GMT 1, You could say that about any art. What if someone threw paint on the Mona Lisa would they just leave it that way. Early works by Banksy are becoming very rare and to be honest i would hate to see this one disappear. Too many have been ripped off walls or destroyed No, but you could say that about art painted on a surface that the artist fully expects to have painted over, as this was. So, yeah, it had already disappeared.
Of course early street works are rare, they exist in a space/environment that is transitory and has a finite lifespan but, when they were painted, the artist knew that and accepted it. If you want to see work by banksy on a more long term basis then he makes a ton of work designed specifically for display indoors.
Likening the loss of this work to throwing paint on the Mona Lisa is ridiculous and irrelevant.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by 11 on Nov 28, 2018 14:07:48 GMT 1, Did Banksy or someone with access to the original stencil restore the completely erased snorting copper? have you read the link?
The snorting copper that was dogged, tagged, buffed and then jet washed clean ?
It’s a miracle what a ‘restorer’ can do these days
I’m still waiting for the restored CYW piece to materialise from the pile of dust and rubble it became when carved out with a chainsaw.

Yes and my view is that Banksy was paid to re paint it using the original stencils. Even though I have no proof for that view.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by moron on Apr 16, 2020 14:46:09 GMT 1, moran this is just a thread about the art. If you don't mind would you take the part about 96 off your comment, please. You don't have to but really i prefer if you did thanks My comment about 96 was very relevant to what Banksy wrote on the wall in Scotland and factual.
As far as I am concerned, considering what happened. What Banksy wrote on the wall is hate speech and I know people like you would say that it's Banksy so he can do a he pleases but i am sure that if someone else wrote this on that wall, they would be quickly attacked on here for writing hate speech, condoning mass shootings etc etc. Yes we all know it's just Banksy trying to be "edgy" but it shows how clueless he is to write this on a wall in Scotland particularly referencing a 9mm.
I just made a point why this should not be restored but I think you are concerned about the value of Banksy stock going down.

I stated a fact and the reason this Banksy scribble on the wall wa sout of order by Banksy to write and should not be restored.
To me it looks like people are so obsessed with making money from Banksy prints etc that anything that might make people look at Banksy differently to the hype that they decide to edit out what people write.
