Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by irl1 on Aug 25, 2018 11:28:53 GMT 1, Are they hand painted by Sandra? She says they are all carved. I sent her an email yesterday about this piece. Here is some of the email she sent me back. (I don't want to post the whole email)
Hi ****,
Thanks for writing me.
I don’t expect everyone to love everything that I do, this project started 3 years ago and it was something I wanted to do to see the possibilities of rendering my 2D work in 3D. At that time we decided to go with something that was simple because it was a world that I never explored. Sorry to hear you don’t like them; honestly if you saw them in the flesh maybe you’d changed your mind, maybe not. The mask are all carved and unfortunately it’s hard to show the essence of them on picture.
This was a world I wanted to explore and if I wasn’t satisfied about the project I wouldn’t put it out there.
I’m working on new projects in 3D and I’ve pushed things a lot further and can’t wait to continu to explore new materials. This was on’y the start.
Hope you’ll be curious enough to see what’s coming.
Again,
Thanks for writing
S.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by caruso on Aug 25, 2018 11:49:28 GMT 1, For people like me who were only halfhearted about Sandra Chevrier, e.g. wouldn't collect but didn't mind her on the art scene either, this looks very much like the first nail in the coffin.
She got too greedy and too lazy to release something decent, and it is about to backfire. Funny to see how so many flippers are now trying to get rid of their Chevrier stock. Good luck with that.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by Extra Ball on Aug 25, 2018 12:05:17 GMT 1, I never understood the artistic sense of her approach and despite all the respect I have for her, her work never gave me the slightest emotion. I do not understand how with a result also bad, it can still put on sale. I remember that I received my Mr Dob a year after the normal date because Murakami was not satisfied with the work done on this series and had done all over again. she should have been inspired by it.

Funny reading the email she sent me, i get the feeling its sort of, take it or leave it as i have loads of fans. She did write a bit more about not reading forms etc. But to be honest i did like her work but it just seemed to go on and on with the same thing. Now this, really she needs someone good behind her to push her. There are some artists trying all their life to get a kick start like her, but just never get there. Some get there and then think, well i'm here now so its all done. Not the case, when your there you need to work harder to stay there.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by Jaylove on Aug 25, 2018 14:15:08 GMT 1, For people like me who were only halfhearted about Sandra Chevrier, e.g. wouldn't collect but didn't mind her on the art scene either, this looks very much like the first nail in the coffin. She got too greedy and too lazy to release something decent, and it is about to backfire. Funny to see how so many flippers are now trying to get rid of their Chevrier stock. Good luck with that. When her gallery failed twice to provide me a print that wasnt' damaged, I just told them not to bother and refund me. I was over her before. I'm certainly over her now. Wanted to support as we come from the same town but I don't regret it one bit.
I hope she gets on track. Seems like greed but she's not the only one. The art world has become one giant cash grab for many.

Totally agree with you, too many artists today take collectors as cash cows and don't give a f about anything else but their bank account balance.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by Inknart on Aug 25, 2018 15:04:15 GMT 1, She should have maybe gone and done a more realistic approach.
She applies real masks for models in reality. Maybe a solid color busk with some small coloring in eyes with a thick print, cut to fit around the busk as if it was one of her models would have been a better result. Could have been great with a little better artistic direction.

Emailing and artist to complain that you don't like a piece of art is pretty lame Depends the way you say it. I normally did like a lot of her work but this is just not working for her. Do you think i'm the first to tell her, don't think so. As i said i never wrote something like that to an artist before. I have written to many artists about how good their work is. At least i take the time to do it. Many just buy a piece and hope it goes up in value.
Yes its not or ever will be my business what she does, but there is no harm in giving an opinion about something.

I'm not being smart gmidd but the only place i see these being flipped is into the bin
I completely agree. This piece is terrible. Doesn't mean people won't try though.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by irl1 on Aug 25, 2018 18:03:59 GMT 1, Yes why not, this wouldn't pass quality control in a toy factory in China. Unless you work as a Quality Control Officer at a toy factory in China, and Sandra was submitting the piece for your approval, your 'feedback' was at best uninvited, and at worst extremely rude. I may be doing it wrong, but I've always found that when something is offered for sale that I don't particularly like, the best way for me to express that is just not to buy it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you can't express your 'critique' publicly - here, social media, blogging etc. But to send someone an email to let them know that you don't like a piece of art that they've created is a bit strong, in my opinion. Edit: For the record, I think it's laughablys**t too, I just wouldn't feel the need to tell her. Yes i'm the same as you, i would just pass it by and not buy. I was not rude to her in any way.
The thing is when someone like Sandra brings out something like this after having sold out shows etc, it just makes a laugh of her fans. Yes she's trying something new and it will take a while to get right, but lets face it, these are utter crap. More than likely it will sell out, but then whats next. I see a lot of posts about it being a quick cash and grab, so maybe if a few people told her how bad it is (not in so many words) then she might just think twice the next time. Its hard to get to the top the first time but getting there the second time is even harder.
If i was a regular buyer of her art and i was waiting on this, i would really feel she was taking me for a mug.

You state you've never done it before so I'm just intrigued why you felt you had to now. Seems weird to me.
Also don't understand the backlash. Everyone can have there own opinion but if you don't like it then why worry about taking the time to trash it. Just don't like it and move on.
Sadly the backlash seems fueled by more then just the art not being great. Not hard to see through it.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by Rouen Cathedral on Aug 25, 2018 18:11:56 GMT 1, Unless you work as a Quality Control Officer at a toy factory in China, and Sandra was submitting the piece for your approval, your 'feedback' was at best uninvited, and at worst extremely rude.
If an artist takes some person's rude random email critique and 'thinks twice' next time that would be a shame.
I have a feeling Sandra won't be thinking twice with her art. As any good artist wouldn't be So guess your 'point' Is a failure.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by irl1 on Aug 25, 2018 18:20:04 GMT 1, Yes why not, this wouldn't pass quality control in a toy factory in China. No other reason than i hate to see people being taken for mugs, and anyone can see that with this piece. I'm not the only one on here and a lot of other places saying the same
I love art and have done all my life. I have supported artists since i was a very young man and have made friends with many.
You can't judge me by this thread alone, and no there is noting else going on, apart from this very bad piece of art

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by irl1 on Aug 25, 2018 18:36:57 GMT 1, I think irl1 did a nice thing providing her feedback, albeit not positive - that’s more useful than sycophantic compliments. There is no talking to some people on here. I wrote the lady a nice email about her piece. I also apologised for sending it, but felt i had to write. Now i know shes not going to take advice from some Paddy on the other side of the world, but she did admit its something new shes "trying".
Can someone not tell an artist its just not happening for them with their piece. Yes i went overboard with all my comments on here, but i just got carried away.
chrisjl, yes all i sent was feedback, and everyone loves feedback.
As i have already said i write to many artists. I have often being asked by one artist i know, well what do you think of this one. I know the guy so well we have a laugh sometimes about what i would say back to him. He has many buyers who would say it straight to his face, what the F*** is that, your not going to try sell that, or whatever.
There are hundreds of posts on here saying a lot worse about an artist than i ever will.

Sandra Chevier Sculpture Release , by Poster Bob on Aug 25, 2018 19:58:18 GMT 1, I would appreciate if you would all shut up and stop telling her this is a massive mistake. I would prefer it if she was forced to throw these in a dumpster and set it alight and lose every cent she has ever earned.

I would prefer it if she was forced to throw these in a dumpster and set it alight and lose every cent she has ever earned. Why not just let the lady earn a living so she can support her child? People just love to tear others apart. We're sure quick to offer critiques, especially when we don't have any artistic skills and are mere consumers. If this was a forum of successful artists, I can see how critiques would be justified, but as an internet forum filled with fatcats who have money to burn, it just seems childish.
