Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by soupy on Aug 29, 2018 15:19:48 GMT 1, certainly out of the ordinary for a gallery to announce a print "drop" at a random time for a previously released print especially since they are not the original publisher of the edition and don't have the entire edition to sell.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by shinkaiser on Aug 29, 2018 18:04:58 GMT 1, Allow me to repeat: EBAY IS INCREDIBLY CHEAPER THAN BLACK BOOK GALLERY And eBay is also cheaper than most (Iโd say all) other galleries. So what? You are comparing peaches and apples. And no, I have no link to the above gallery. The difference here is that (in my experience) galleries have artwork that cannot easily be found on Ebay

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by maddoghoek100 on Aug 29, 2018 18:31:41 GMT 1, this thread took a real weird turn for something that seems sort of run of the mill. I see a lot of points here
1) This is not a personal for sale thread, it is a gallery promoting a sale, SO if someone wants to suggest a better location to pick up a fairey print i would say that is fine information to share. It does seem an appropriate place for someone to comment on if the pricing and direct interested persons to a better price. Just saying go get it on ebay is probably not so useful, most of us have already heard of ebay.
2) This thread is clearly an advertisement intended to generate interest in the sale of the prints and is clearly labeled as such, so i dont get why anyone would think there is anything nefarious here at all. Blackbook is clearly labeled as a gallery and is making no attempt to have shills generate hype.
I suppose i am reacting a bit to the current political climate here in the states with claims of fake news, the spread of fake news, and the inability of good people to stand up and tell trolls to cut out the crap. So this is my small attempt.
Stop it, there is nothing nefarious here. Anyone who says there is something nefarious here is a fool or a troll or both. Dont take their bait. Comment on the pricing all you like. Perhaps even direct people to where they can get those things at a better price as a public service. Again i would frown on that behavior in a person's individual for sale thread but a business in the business advertising does sort of sign up for that. They know the market, they know the audience, and i am sure they can take a little healthy discussion that is polite and informative.
Ill start. Im not sure you can beat 750 on the queen. Whoever bought it probably got a decent price. Get a job is actually very fairly priced at 250 but i believe the currently lowest offer on ebay is 225 and 250 is the lowest on offer for private sales on that well known other poster website

Since your post is courageously indirectly directed at me, let me reply.
At no point have I been rude or insulting. I have been trying to have a conversation to clarify what their affiliation with Shep was and what could justify such hefty premiums.
The answers provided or rather lack of have left me unsatisfied that I'm not dealing with nothing more than a glorified flipper calling himself a gallery.
Calling it a drop is misleading. Claiming to be an official reseller is misleading.
And last but not least their last reply speaks volumes.
Now called me a troll or a fool all you like, or both if it makes your day.
I will call out bullshitters on this forum, like it or not.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by Deleted on Aug 29, 2018 18:52:29 GMT 1, Its all getting a bit ridiculous. Everybody is in the right here, so far as their opinion.
Caruso has every right to claim the prices are excessively high, and also to claim that its strange that the gallery claim this is "a drop", as we all know that typically refers to original releases. I agree this seems misleading, but it's a gallery, they can market however they want and accept their reputation afterwards.
Black book has every right, at the same time, to release this way. They can claim that for a gallery their pricing is fair, because how could you deny them their opinion? They are putting their reputation on the line with this release style, and so be it.
I just see this as fair play. Caruso calls them out for their advertising tactics, they fire back with their opinion, and they have to live with the consequences. But I don't see flat out lies, or an overreacting member either. This is what a gallery and this forum represent, and shows what's bound to happen when a gallery tries to market this way directly to informed collectors.
Clearly their "drop" tactic didn't work, as their "mystery time release" yielded two sales. But this was the route they chose, and the cards are now on the table.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by Dive Jedi on Aug 29, 2018 19:19:20 GMT 1, Since - as usual - I have nothing better to do, let me summarize here.
Calling a gallery a flipper is a bit silly. Because they basicly are. They resell prints for a living. That's the very nature of a gallery. Their prices are higher then a eBay flipper since they pay rent, wages to their staff and do promotions and stuff.
It's like calling a supermarket a food flipper.
If prices are too high they don't sell anything and they go belly up. So if you think prices are too high, don't buy their sh!t.
My advice to Black Book would be to stay polite, even when confronted with an opnion they don't agree with. And since I'm in a very reasonable mood at the moment; yes, even when it's caruso.
Now back to the important issue in this thread!
I would say it looks like David Beckham's dadโฆ.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by Poster Bob on Aug 29, 2018 19:26:02 GMT 1, No, it's not because food in the modern day requires a complex distribution network. Shepard Fairey sells prints directly to consumers and scum like this stand in between the artist and the consumer in order to make a profit. No service is provided except overpaying.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by Dive Jedi on Aug 29, 2018 19:48:00 GMT 1, No, it's not because food in the modern day requires a complex distribution network. Shepard Fairey sells prints directly to consumers and scum like this stand in between the artist and the consumer in order to make a profit. No service is provided except overpaying. Since - as usual - I have nothing better to do, let me summarize here. Now back to the important issue in this thread!I would say it looks like David Beckham's dadโฆ. Fair enough. So which services do you provide when flipping prints, Poster Scum ?
I think you are missing the big picture. . . .

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by Mr Murk on Aug 29, 2018 19:53:43 GMT 1, We buy these prints directly from Obey. We sold way more than 2. Obey tells us what to sell them for. The Obey prints on the main section of our website we donโt buy from Obey so we price them how we like. This is not intended to make you mad. We have done this with other prints they give us so welcome to the party! We called it a โdropโ because we โreleaseโ prints we publish, maybe thatโs stupid terminology but once again itโs not to confuse you or make you mad. All that being said Ive been a member here for 10 years and enjoy the info shared on here so maybe just maybe Iโm not a total dick.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by Con Art Studio on Aug 29, 2018 19:57:39 GMT 1, A little brown-nosing to galleries I see. I never claimed to know Shepard, and this thread this is not a race about who we know or not. This is about a gallery selling at extortionate prices, and me pointing that out to prevent new members from being ripped off and paying WELL over the odds. And yes eBay is incredibly cheaper than this gallery. Allow me to repeat: EBAY IS INCREDIBLY CHEAPER THAN BLACK BOOK GALLERY There. And until proven otherwise, I find it hard to believe Fairey would allow a gallery to sell his prints for up to over 10x the initial price, certainly not after gently lecturing everyone about this: obeygiant.com/ebay-policy/And how convenient they found providential support on the thread on the very day their 'drop' is scheduled, after not replying to my previous post. Connect the dots. you're own words:
I corrected you because you were wrong.
I have no skin in the game, I don't have any affiliations with BBG (other than customer) & I've never bought an Obey print from their site or their print site. No dots to connect. End of story.

Shepard Fairey "Americana" Series Print Drop, by caruso on Aug 29, 2018 20:03:58 GMT 1, You have your own opinion and I respect it, but respectfully it doesn't mean you hold the universal truth and can correct me, however righteous you're feeling at the moment.
I have my own and it does not mean I'm right either, but based on the elements I have in my possession, I haven't been compelled to change it.
