INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by djtoine on Nov 19, 2018 16:51:24 GMT 1, I didn’t see any stickers for sale, but I spotted this outside the gallery.
Not an official one. Made by some Invader fans. ;-) But lovely anyway!

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by touchdowntodd on Nov 19, 2018 16:57:24 GMT 1, Welcome to every release in the US Unfortunately the US is massive. I’m on the opposite coast from we’re these are being released so it isn’t helping me out by just being in America. I certainly can’t hope on a plane and fly out in time to get in a line. I would say that it’s better to say “all these releases in LA”
Let's not act like NYC is any better lol
We live in the only country where people make resell a "job" and apparently don't need benefits lol
Not hating on the secondary, hating on those that will line up for anything.. hating on the "I have that video game print it glows in the dark, how much will you pay" messages lol

While I'm bummed I don't live near LA, it's kinda laughable that all these brits are up in arms over an in person release. Not too long ago, you had access to many a in-person Banksy releases at POW/Santa's Ghetto that us in the states had no shot at. But hey, when the shoes on the other foot, gotta raise hell amiright?

With that being said I completely agree with your statements on the resell market here in the good ole U.S. of A. Lots of people are out for that quick buck and in turn screws over those of us who want the art on our walls to enjoy it.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by Inknart on Nov 19, 2018 17:19:05 GMT 1, It’s disgusting how many of the sunset prints are on ebay already... glad, tho, as hopefully it will jack the prices back down. Sick of this madness. It isn’t serving him as an artist or the fans. Welcome to every release in the US Market will eventually settle back in. I think if you're going to buy one of these, now is the time, especially if you can get for anywhere between 2500-4k. I think they will be worth more, so people shunning prices at 3500 may regret not picking up at these "laughable" prices.
I really have to think that complexcon release played a huge role into the people who are flipping these. Sneakerheads/Supreme people who had no idea who he was until long beach release who now know these go for more than a pair of shoes will wait in line.
I still think complexcon was a very strange venue to release , but I understand all exposure is good exposure, just not for secondary market prices and the introduction to individuals who don't really care about art at all.

They let you into the room in groups of 5 to buy, and I was the only one in that room that had any idea who the artist even was. It was crazy. And you could tell the shop people were not too amused. They seemed very happy when I walked up, an actual fan that wanted a print.

ComplexCon is an event built entirely around reselling culture. And the culture that is being promoted is open and accepting of things like bots and getting more than the share you're allowed, actually those things are encouraged and praised. The number of art related vendors that were added this year was surprising. But then again even galleries gotta pay the bills.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by Inknart on Nov 19, 2018 17:36:15 GMT 1, curious to know what people think these will settle at considering the old ones prices like the space ones and home series as i think they are the best prints since those ones... although im not sure what those sell for these days These will be 5-7k IMO, at least the gold/blue version that isn't GID. I think it's a lovely print, entire print is embossed and it's clearly classic invader.

I'd disagree given size, edition size, and the fact that at least half went to non collectors.... And his market rollercoaster pricing
5k can get u a great classic right now if shopping carefully. It will be a few years before these hit that Mark imho....

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by supercade on Nov 19, 2018 17:46:50 GMT 1, What's with all the hate on here for the secondary market? Without it there would be no primary market. How does it serve the artist? It breeds nothing but contempt and resentment and causes fans to lose interest and seek out other artists to collect. Just look at this thread. Prints are intended for fans who can’t afford original work, not resellers and dealers.
David Hockney was livid when “Portrait of an Artist” was flipped for over 3X the original price at an art fair shortly after being shown in 1972, and he certainly didn’t get a dime of the $90+ million it just sold for at Christie’s.
Sure. He can charge more for prints, but should that be the end goal? How about offer more original work for high-level collectors so the average fan has the opportunity to acquire something and maybe his street art won’t be stolen with abandon. Nearly half of the last wave in LA is already gone.

Secondary feeds to primary. If his secondary didn't sell for what it does most artist would starve. It's absolutely necessary.
This is how persistence and dedication to his craft has paid off.
He wouldn't be selling his own originals for 300k at his current show either if there was no secondary.

The only way is open signed editions.
The artist makes more money and the true collectors/fans have access to any print they want................ simple as that.

They show up in packs, and are absolutely the rudest of individuals. Literally 0 respect for anyone or anything around them. (2) of them walked to the back got stamped and walked all the way back up right in front of me. Another guy confronted them and they were literally ready to throw blows because of trash they were. "We were here" blah blah blah. Absolutely rubbish of individuals.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by laguy34 on Nov 19, 2018 18:17:05 GMT 1, In my group: 2 were wearing Supreme tshirts. First guy said "I guess I will take a white one". All three of them were on their phones texting, not even looking around. Second guy had his card declined, so he had to start texting someone. It was beyond obvious, and as I said the sales people looked annoyed.
And to answer your "How did they know" question. I walked up and was very excited. They smiled. I said I didn't know which one to buy. I went for Neon and a book.
"Get it framed quickly" she said.
"I know. I just framed my Astro Boys print from him a month ago" I said
So again, me or the guys in Supreme tshirts that stunk of Marijuana texting on their phones with declined credit cards
Yeah....they knew.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by stuckeyc on Nov 19, 2018 18:53:12 GMT 1, If you want to curb the aftermarket don't rage buy within the first few month. Make the instaflippers keep the money tied up. Gotta make them sweat if they want sweat equity. I bought both an abbey road and a framed home works for less than what folks are asking on these. Keep their money tied up through the holidays

Very similar to my experience- I couldn't decide between the bottom two,so asked the girl on the left her favourite. She said the neon - sealed. I liked the pop but also the gold, it was a hard choice. I had a different experience though with my "line buddies". One was probably going to flip it, but they all knew about art. One guy was there with his wife and sister - he copped the mythical "full set" (minus VIPs) for a triptych on his wall. We talked shows and releases for ages - I have stuff dating back to 2012 so I was a "veteran" by comparison, vs their first source release. I had a good time. I will actually remember that line fondly when I look at the framed print.

"I know. I just framed my Astro Boys print from him a month ago" I said So again, me or the guys in Supreme tshirts that stunk of Marijuana texting on their phones with declined credit cards Yeah....they knew.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by soupy on Nov 19, 2018 19:57:53 GMT 1, all i have to say is that i think this is one of the best invader print releases in quite some time. embossed tiles and a classic invader image. certainly happy with mine. LED is up there but not as classic of an invader looking print (if that makes any sense).

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by Villain Dillon on Nov 19, 2018 22:32:11 GMT 1, As an Angeleno, this was a very nice surprise and opportunity to purchase a classic Invader print. If I remember correctly, RVE (which I love and missed out on) surprise dropped at around 4am PST, and most people in LA and the west coast missed out on that. The setup by OTI was organized and smooth all things considered.
The crowd was a milieu of people - ages, interests, and intentions. It opens your eyes to see and moreso hear the discussions people are having. The people directly in front of me were mostly talking about the quick flip and both admitted that that's their full-time job (seems absurd to me spending your life in lines to simply resell things). One of them even mentioned that he might not even have enough to purchase it and his friend offered to transfer him funds on the spot just so he could turn around and sell it. The exposure to that mentality and intention was a bummer. Being there for no other reason than to make a buck. So yes, there were a lot of people there who could care less about Invader and only wanted the quick flip. However, that same thing happens during an online release - this was manifested in person so it was a more visceral experience. There were also a lot of diehard fans and followers.
For anyone who has grown up in LA or lived here for the past decade, you can tell that Invader is an essential artist for this city. He's crushed it on several occasions and his work is woven into the city. Even people who don't know who he is, know who he is because you can't escape seeing his pieces around LA.
Happy that I checked IG when walking my dog Sunday morning - dropped the dog off, drove to the shop (quickly) and patiently waited and was fortunate to get the print I wanted.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by Deleted on Nov 19, 2018 22:32:32 GMT 1, Interesting trade proposition. Curious to see how much people value their invaders. Long term, losing trade giving up the Jonas imho.. these are 16.5x16.5 prints. Cool, but not worth the ebay prices,or they'd sell. Invader is great, but his market is about as steady as a rollercoaster
Mad bastard. I’m happy to do this deal.

They need a questionnaire about the artist. 5 really simple questions any fan should know. Answer 3 right your in, any less tell them to f**koff some of the instant flippers are very knowledgable about many artists. The manner in which this print was released plus the location scuppered a few of them.

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by touchdowntodd on Nov 19, 2018 22:58:11 GMT 1, well I think it's awesome that it was basically a surprise release I think it kind of spat in the face of people who replied and requested to be at the Grand opening who at least we know we're fans for the most part hopefully..
I know a few people who only could fly out for that day with work etc so having spent good money flying out just to see the preview only to be shown people being sold Prints two days later who had no interest even in the artist was sort of painful for them

INVADER first solo show in Los Angeles since 2005, by sijh on Nov 19, 2018 23:36:11 GMT 1, I went to the show Saturday night and luckily saw the release get announced Sunday morning.
The show itself is great, clearly a lot of people didn’t get or believe there was not going to be any print release Saturday but there were a few who seemed to be aware there might be on Sunday. The volume of people caused a bit of a roadblock especially when Shepard Fairey and Mr Brainwash showed up. Fairey made a swift exit when someone started giving him crap about his website. I am sure that was a conversation he wanted to have after beers on a Saturday night.
The line Sunday was interesting, a lot calmer than I expected and OTI seemed to handle it well, it seemed like about 50/50 flippers and collectors, including one super annoying stoned chap ahead of me constantly offering people $ for their place in line. I ended up with the white/blue and the wife picked up the blue/gold, they will be going on the wall vs the straight flip, after missing out on RVE and others in recent years it was a bit of a result.
