Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Michael James Art on Nov 15, 2018 1:49:35 GMT 1, So by the looks of it, and because of how famous he has become (transcending niche street art market and the general collectors art market) do the members of the forum think (or know) if he will ever release a new s/n edition print ever again? And if he does, do you think it will be made available to the general public like in the old POW days and at similar prices? I ask because it seems to me his art has evolved into mass public works and expositions that really don’t have anything that can be aquired created him (that Pest Control would certify I.e. Paris, Dismaland, etc) and high-end commissions and non-accessible markets through Pest Control or his inner circle that mere mortals like myself will most likely never have access to. it would be nice to have the opportunity to own one of his works that is signed and numbered and is accessible in pricing as well as volume, even though at this stage I think I will have a better chance at winning the Powerball lottery. In other words had he become so big that he will now and forever be out of reach and is he no longer interested in doing prints because where his art and activism is going/evolving? thanks!
YANK!

In regards to another general public release, who knows. Box Sets are still around, they're essentially OE prints.

You just reinforced my point. Thank you! Editions released to VIPs and or inside crew that worked Dismaland, the POW release was the same image as before just different color and commemorating for the closing of the shop (plus there was a rumor that they were sitting on a shelf from a prior run years ago), and the WOH Box Sets are not signed and numbered and are not certified by Pest Control. When will we see something new and accessible for the masses, if ever?

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Fast Eddie on Nov 15, 2018 6:44:44 GMT 1, I think this is an excellent question. If you reflect a bit on what's a crucial dimension of street art is its accessibility. You see it in the street. It is also art based on an inherently anti-system narrative, political, certainly anti-elite. Street art is message and not just mere aesthetics. I think Shepard Fairey gets to this quite aggressively and very methodically, almost religiously, releases and expands accessibility and works in the city.
Banksy has chosen a separate route, focusing more on few, large-impact operations. They bring more visibility to the causes he champions and rely on art market prices as a proxy for relevance and value of the source of the message. But this approach also leaves the regular guys who just love the art, on the sidelines.
Maybe I am wrong. I am not an expert.

Even if he makes a standard edition print release it will never be accessible to the masses... to five hundred people at best. The minute that affordable print reaches those lucky few it becomes out of reach for most fans price wise.

Excellent points eloquently stated. Brilliant and thank you!. Your comparison to Shepard is spot on. Exactly my point and great example of a very popular and well known artist who is able to satisfy both markets, the high end auctions, private commissions and consignments as well as the world of everyday fans and aficionados who continue to enjoy and collect his work, because he makes it a point to have it readily available and at incredibly reasonable prices. Banksy could easily do the same and if you think about it, have his message in a lot more homes than what currently is happening.
YANK!!

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Deleted on Nov 15, 2018 8:40:50 GMT 1, When he sees the chaos for a 4 quid beer mat in a museum shop and a free poster at a travel agents convention, maybe he just thinks I canny be arsed releasing a new print.
I wouldnt over think what he thinks or relate no new release to his increased fame or noteriety.

But if he was to transcend that, and realize that his work is cherished and beloved by so many and make a true effort to make it accessible, he would become greater than a secretive, eccentric and narcissistic artist who doesn’t give a damm. He would become a true world leader who’s message would be heard and pondered. As Maslow stated, he would self actualize.

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Viking Surfer on Nov 15, 2018 8:53:29 GMT 1, The bigger Banksy gets (and he is already a household name - the magnitude of which can never be understated) combined with the fact that he doesn’t care about or even need to release artworks publicly, means that his prices will (unfortunately) just continue to rise.
Bottom line: if you’d like to own a Banksy, get in whilst you can.

It is rare that a man has the opportunity to change the world and trandsend his own mortality. It is almost dogmatic. The economics are an ends to a means. I have hope that he does care. He cares about us, he cares about his message, he cares about his art as we do. I hope he cares and understands that he is bigger than supply and demand and the petty economics of man, and that many people want to own a piece of him and be inspired by his genius. There is a difference in seeing a facsimile and holding an original, touched by the artist, in your hands. It fans the flame.

So he believes that he can dissuade people from removing and putting street artworks up for sale by putting money in the pockets of those who deal in such work. Am I reading that right?

Yeah, I have to say I couldn't really follow the logic myself, the reality is he would be half a million lighter and have nothing to show for it, and people would still carry on selling street pieces.

It will be another lottery for a signed Banksy print! One entry per person. There will be no unsigned.
And if you swallowed that then you probably voted for Brexit Sorry, UK thing, couldn't resist.
