Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Carl Cashman on Nov 15, 2018 15:15:18 GMT 1, Why would he bother ? The ghettos ended with people fighting in queues and a few days ago there were scrums for a free poster and people knicking stuff off the stand.

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Carl Cashman on Nov 15, 2018 15:17:35 GMT 1, This conversation goes for all the top artists really. It’s a not banksy thing it’s just the art market in general. What other artists no longer sell to the average collectors ?

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Carl Cashman on Nov 15, 2018 15:26:38 GMT 1, I think he's bought it as an investment but not trying to look as he condones the sale of removed street art. Everyone will forget about this in a few weeks & he will just keep it in his collection. That's has even less logic than trashing it ! If they are friends, surely a 500k commission makes more sense

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Fast Eddie on Nov 15, 2018 16:27:42 GMT 1, There are several thoughtful posts above. As a newbie here, I am quite amazed at the quality of the discussion in general.
A couple of other points may need mentioning.
Is this just whining by people who cannot afford Banksy? Why don't you just print the image files from his website or get a poster?
I think this is legitimate. There may be a point. But ultimately being a collector, especially of street art, means believing in the art and in its message. Something that the artist makes and you eventually own creates something more valuable than a poster picked up at the store. It creates a connection between people. A physical bridge between Banksy and you, that you build into your home. Otherwise it is like watching TV. Or you do it to show your friends. Which is totally fine, but not the kind of people artists necessarily like.
Second, people asked whether Banksy cares. Your working assumption should be that an artist cares about his or her own art. First and foremost. But, in the case of street art and especially that by Banksy, with such a clear social content, this must involve the recipients of the art itself. Notice how this argument would not work for completely empty contemporary artists like Hirst or for deeply introspective ones like Richter.

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Deleted on Nov 15, 2018 17:44:50 GMT 1, The bigger Banksy gets (and he is already a household name - the magnitude of which can never be understated) combined with the fact that he doesn’t care about or even need to release artworks publicly, means that his prices will (unfortunately) just continue to rise. Bottom line: if you’d like to own a Banksy, get in whilst you can. It is rare that a man has the opportunity to change the world and trandsend his own mortality. It is almost dogmatic. The economics are an ends to a means. I have hope that he does care. He cares about us, he cares about his message, he cares about his art as we do. I hope he cares and understands that he is bigger than supply and demand and the petty economics of man, and that many people want to own a piece of him and be inspired by his genius. There is a difference in seeing a facsimile and holding an original, touched by the artist, in your hands. It fans the flame. YANK!! I
I cant help but feel you are YANKing us off but you could be for real.

Mine is but the print came numbered like that of the shelf. The hotel staff numbered the wall section before issuing. Maybe it's just the defeated wall sections? My wall section is numbered around 60 for section type 5D (defeated?), and it matches the paperwork.

By buying the piece in the first place Ron English is encouraging people to steal street art off the walls to sell. By whitewashing it he's effectively protesting against himself. And losing half a million in the process. I like Ron English but this is just dumb.
