Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Michael James Art on Nov 18, 2018 7:22:27 GMT 1, What other artists no longer sell to the average collectors ? I imagine a few do, Warhol did private portraits back in the day for $25,000.
But Warhol coveted celebrity and wealth. I’d even argue that it was an important element to his persona and art. Banksy is not that. He eschews fame, elitism and money. He sells his work to private collectors so that he can finance the bigger, more important work which is done to a broad audience and usually free to the public. Work that I can only guess is where his heart lives. His art is counter culture and antiestablishment. He is the people’s artist.
YANK!!

But you gotta lose that Yank!!! thing it detracts from your posts. Establish your brand on social media if you must.

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by Fast Eddie on Nov 18, 2018 16:11:10 GMT 1, How much do you think the average price of an unsigned print by Banksy would drop today if he announced the release of 20 new prints of 500 size unsigned editions over the next 10 years?
Answer in percentage points please.

Answer in percentage points please. Let me clarify. If you answer to the question above is "they would drop a lot", then you have a logical reason for why there will be few/no opportunities for new editions.
But if your answer is "they would not drop much/at all", then it must not be an economic motive to justify Banksy's behavior (he'd make a kill on the primary market and not affect the secondary at all, of which he may care if he holds inventory).
But there are people out there not motivated by economic considerations - I know it sounds weird - and you'd hope that few of those are artists.

Simply put.. 1000 prints a year for millions of fans isn't enough. It may in fact boost the feeling of missing out, and increase secondary prices
Doesn't matter, because he won't do it.. but either way, I don't see the work going down

I have the same inclination, but my logic is totally based on feelings and not on economic logic. This may be wrong, as human being normally seek their self-interest.

It may create higher demand for those prints produced in years gone by. It happened to a certain extent for the boxset, how many sales ads had “original ikea frame” ? Madness😂

Simple math... 500 prints at $500 each is 250k...
1 private painting a million 1 VIP print release 25k x 50 prints 1.25mil Which would you do?
Print will only happen if the need for publicity is felt, which won't happen after the shredding for a long time... Even then, wouldn't be 2 a year likely, and no artist would ever announce 2 prints a year for 10 years

Which would I do?
Well, I am not the one pressing prints that criticize the art market VIPs, am I? Nor the one who wanted to do shred to pieces a canvas to show how ephemeral it all was.
Unless you think Banksy is a total fake and these are mere PR stunts...

It doesn’t matter if you or others think it’s lame. Your opinion on the matter is subjective. Like art, the artist paints or creates what the artist wants to, not what others want him or her to because it pleases him/her. Many people think the work of Banksy is crap and a public nuisance. They call it “graffiti”, “urban decay” and “blight”. Some have even called it “childish” (much to his pleasure and delight). But I think many here would disagree with those opinions. Strongly. So I will keep the name because I like it, I relate to it, it’s different, it distresses some, and because you think it is lame. So since I like it that is all that matters.
Toodles,

Will Banksy ever release a numbered edition again??, by moron on Nov 19, 2018 0:49:07 GMT 1, So by the looks of it, and because of how famous he has become (transcending niche street art market and the general collectors art market) do the members of the forum think (or know) if he will ever release a new s/n edition print ever again? And if he does, do you think it will be made available to the general public like in the old POW days and at similar prices? I ask because it seems to me his art has evolved into mass public works and expositions that really don’t have anything that can be aquired created him (that Pest Control would certify I.e. Paris, Dismaland, etc) and high-end commissions and non-accessible markets through Pest Control or his inner circle that mere mortals like myself will most likely never have access to. it would be nice to have the opportunity to own one of his works that is signed and numbered and is accessible in pricing as well as volume, even though at this stage I think I will have a better chance at winning the Powerball lottery. In other words had he become so big that he will now and forever be out of reach and is he no longer interested in doing prints because where his art and activism is going/evolving? thanks! YANK!
I guess it depends on the market. In reality why should he release an edition for say a few hundred a print when the market pays a few thousand a print.
I don't know if he has made any new prints sold to private collectors direct and if so in which numbers edition size. If he has then they are most likely tucked away in investment portfolios. If he releases a print for his fans at low hundreds price, then guaranteed that flippers will get their hands on the majority of the release anyway.
So by the looks of it, and because of how famous he has become (transcending niche street art market and the general collectors art market) do the members of the forum think (or know) if he will ever release a new s/n edition print ever again?
