You dont get assigned a place until the timer stops, so you will not loose your place.
You can also leave the site and come back at 3:55 with no risk of losing space - the 'Queue ID' at the bottom of the page stays the same, so assume it tracks you came before

I dont think anyone has a better chance. It states randomly placed in queue. I assume at 4pm it will just randomly let a certain amount of people in, and as people leave the site the next person goes in. Not entirely sure but thats the gist of it from the site of QueueIt
