I thought normal practise with a timed release was to print after the release shut off time - that way you know the number you are going to have to print. The video suggested they have already printed them.

It looks a bit like something you might pick up on Etsy. And you can either display it with the side with the image but no signature, or the side with the signature and just some stamps.

No purchases actually 'give to charities though, right? The proceeds of the edition go to the artist, and then the original is auctioned for charity.
I'm not saying this is a problem, it's still a cut above most releases, but it's not like you are donating the money and getting something in return

He could have just bought some envelopes, hand-drawn some tightrope-walking folks on them, sold them for a third of the price and everyone would have been exceedingly happy. This is pretty, but it just isn't meaningful or impactful enough to be worth the price as anything other than an investment, and I don't really have ยฃ700 to be investing at the moment. I remain in the Pejac fan club, but I'm out.

However, if many people think like this and there are loads sold, then people will be offloading like crazy. It's a nice piece, and if it was editioned, with a price, then people could make their own judgement. Be interesting to see if many take the plunge at this price.

I remain in the Pejac fan club, but I'm out. My thoughts exactly. It's actually a nice concept. I remember seeing the rope-walking dude on his IG a while ago and thinking "that's cool". After seeing the video you can see that it's true that a lot work went into this - the envelope, the print, the stamp, the press etc. But after all it's still a signed envelope with a doodle and some stamps for 600+ quid. At half the price of his editions, it just doesn't look the value. |
