Price wise, tough because of a timed relewse, but below the trend of his recent releases. If you do it for the flip or the โfeeling uniqueโ, edition size matters, else it shouldnโt.
About the artwork itself.
I watched the video and Pejac and his crew put a lot of attention in the making of the artworks (and the video too). The messages are subtiles and not printed in huge sheet of paper. The packaging is indeed bulky but i am thinking itโs also part of the message. Love is to be protected and shipped safely if you want to reach someone on the other side of the world.
The envelop itself is a weak medium nowadays. Everyone send emails. Shipping companies are giving hard time to anything (our tubes!  ).
I hinestly love receiving a postcard or handwritten letters nowadays. Itโs rare enough to be meaningful and carry a lot.
I live what Pejac does. This time, i wasnโt impressed at first. Like any good wine, Art sometimes needs to rest and mature in our mind. I believe i have to let this one rest for a while so it creates the story i need.

I donโt quite understand why he published a video a few weeks ago (good idea and thoughtful) and now he issues the letter. I see no connection and imho he should have connected this upcoming release with the video. I mean the video with the ship and water well.

I really like it and I do understand the price point, given his secondary market prices and the effort to create the boxes, envelopes, stamps, prints and so on. Once again impressive. But like others I do not like that you can only display one side of the artwork. As I clearly would display the drawing, which I guess is tiny like max. 4 cm, the price is too high for me. If he'd done the envelopes solo, not hand folded, without the fancy box, magnets, gloves and stuff, at a way lower price I think I would have been more tempted and that may have been more fitting with a timed edition. In addition it would have been possible to buy 2 and display both sides. I really like that he does a timed edition though.
Is the second image of the couple a hand finished/drawn version for "friends and family"?

A small acrylic box with base mount would have worked so much better...which could still be a bespoke option. Still bad timing and too high imo.

He releases an over-priced timed edition which keeps numbers in the hundreds rather than thousands. If he had released a desirable print for ยฃ300 and sold 2000 copies all of a sudden Pejac prints are flooding the market and nobody is quite as 'hyped' as they were before for his work as it's not such a rarity to own one.
To be honest this is probably a smart move management wise. He releases an over-priced timed edition which keeps numbers in the hundreds rather than thousands. If he had released a desirable print for ยฃ300 and sold 2000 copies all of a sudden Pejac prints are flooding the market and nobody is quite as 'hyped' as they were before for his work as it's not such a rarity to own one.

Watching the video did it for me, that was what convinced me. Watching it being put together, the time and care. I showed my wife to get sign off, and wasn't sure if she'd buy into it but she said she loved it, and that was that. It made me want to get into more arts and crafts myself, I may even got on a letterpress course for a bit of fun. I always enjoyed working for a printer years ago and used to spend a long time making mock ups so I guess I can appreciate the craft, not that others can't of course but it resonated with me well.

I'll be buying it because I admire the craftsmanship that has gone into it. I'm pleased it's a timed release so it gives everyone who can afford it, the chance to own it. Take it or leave it I guess, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. Watching the video did it for me, that was what convinced me. Watching it being put together, the time and care. I showed my wife to get sign off, and wasn't sure if she'd buy into it but she said she loved it, and that was that. It made me want to get into more arts and crafts myself, I may even got on a letterpress course for a bit of fun. I always enjoyed working for a printer years ago and used to spend a long time making mock ups so I guess I can appreciate the craft, not that others can't of course but it resonated with me well. |
