New Banksy in Taibach, Port Talbot., by Carl Cashman on Dec 20, 2018 16:58:24 GMT 1, What's the point of trying to protect it if it's not touching the art ? Someone will just pour paint behind the perspex if they really are that keen on trashing it. I don't know what Banksy uses to produce his murals but isn't there a risk that with a few warm sunny days (yes, I know its Wales and December) that the plastic will 'stick' to the mural and if you ever try to remove the covering, you will end up with a godawful mess. Unless he's used oil bars.... can't see where he would on this piece then id guess you're fine

New Banksy in Taibach, Port Talbot., by Deleted on Dec 20, 2018 17:51:31 GMT 1, To be honest I hadn't thought past the securing of it. I just wanted to be involved so I offered my time and materials for free.
I don't know for sure but actually, there's a strong possibility it's going to be cut out and sold. I would've looked like a t**t.
Time will tell.

New Banksy in Taibach, Port Talbot., by skAcid on Dec 20, 2018 18:00:14 GMT 1, Hey Guys I need some help if possible. The owner is eger to get some sort of plastic sheet over it asap (tonight). He is having trouble sorting it out. I own a glazing businsess and my father owns a glass ballustrade company. I have been given the go ahead to cover it. But I need to get this right. In my view, the only material I can see being bought at short notice would be maybe 4 or 5mm Clear polycarbone sheets. My first thought was to use sheer bolts to secure it onto the breeze block. Apprantently you can cut the heads off so they can't be removed. My fathers business partner is very knowledgeable about this type of thing. But I need some gerenal opinions... Is 4 or 5mm polycarbonate ok for a short term solution? The owner has said he doesn't want the plastic to touch the art? Does anyone know why. We could use stand off bolts but then you have a gap where someone could potentially pour paint down. Anyone had experience of this? Any ideas? Thanks They used perspex spacers on the Barbican Ferris Wheel.

I saw one in Melbourne years back that had been covered in Perspex. The guys poured paint down the back of it and it didn't look great after........ Just saying...

New Banksy in Taibach, Port Talbot., by Sweet Fanny Adams on Dec 20, 2018 19:08:35 GMT 1, Wonder who will win the race to the bottom of the pile to buy this? Sincura, Barton & Grimes, or Bradley Ridge? Maybe Leon will beat them all to it and just thieve it. I hear Ron English is already making offers to buy it, to stop people from stealing them in the future

New Banksy in Taibach, Port Talbot., by Fast Eddie on Dec 21, 2018 13:24:56 GMT 1, I do not understand the idea of removing this. It seems so much of this work is given by its location & context. This is true for most street art, of course, but especially here, it seems. Maybe it'd make sense to a buyer in Beijing.

That's why it's brilliant.
Putting it in a penthouse in Sjanghai makes no sense. But that's the downside of fame and Banksy value.
If some local artist had made it, it would have been equally brilliant. And none of us would have ever heard about it. And it would be there for decades without a single tag on it.
Now the message reaches the world. Every disadvantage has it's advantage.....

The shading and the layers of tagging, the fire and the smoke. This looks like it took at least a couple hours and a couple people. Wish I could see it in person.
