John Jones Framers, by manty on Jan 11, 2010 20:02:04 GMT 1, Depends on what you want, and i guess what your framing
If its a box type frame then they are pretty good at doing differant colours, and the corner joins are invisable, they do alot if not all of the framing for Elms
The couple of frames I have from them are perspex, instead of glass, is that good or bad, I dont know?
Railings gallery are again good quality and around 25% cheaper than John Jones
And then there is Gary (Misterframeman) no complaints about his frames, and a good guy to deal with

John Jones Framers, by afroken on Jan 11, 2010 20:04:42 GMT 1, John Jones messed up two jobs in a row a couple of years back. When I complained they became incredibly snotty. I wouldn't use them again even if the frames are incredible.
If you want frames of that caliber go to Pauli Frames in West London, otherwise Gary (MFM) is your man.

He has framed about 20 pictures of mine, all brilliantly. Very good prices as well, he has also done some excellent restoration work on some older etchings i have.

I've tried Gary/MFM and have to say that in terms of service, he's fantastic - highly recommended.

John Jones Framers, by mookie on Jan 12, 2010 15:51:19 GMT 1, As a guide to how expensive John Jones are... anyone know the price for getting a NBGs framed by them to conservation standard, say in a black box frame and black mount?
I now always use the same framer in Bristol after a few not so good results from other framers. My framer does very high quality framing with perfect results but I think they are expensive although I've not got a comparison to another high quality framer. For the NBG my framer would charge around ยฃ200.

John Jones Framers, by huggybear on Jan 12, 2010 22:18:08 GMT 1, It really depends on what you want to get framed, what it's value is and whether you're likely to keep it for a while.
I've had a couple of things framed by John Jones and there is no denying that the quality and craftsmanship is second to none. One has to ask though, whether its worth spending two or three hundred quid on framing a six hundred pound print...hmmm....probably not. I've got a couple of Darbyshire frames and they're pretty special too.
Its horses for courses as far as I'm concerned. An original or really special print deserves a the best and they don't come much better than JJ. Mind you, if you're planning a Tox 09 print, probably best to stick to Ikea....

John Jones Framers, by lacklisted on Jan 16, 2019 17:36:59 GMT 1, Sad to have just read this message from the best framers I've ever used.... i'll miss them.
Dear All,
It is with deepest regret to announce that after 40 years in business, John Jones Art Centre Ltd is ceasing trade on February 14th 2019.
I wanted to say thank you to all of you who have been loyal to us over the years- it has been a real pleasure working with you and an honor to frame your wonderful artworks!
Hopefully, there will be an opportunity in the future when we can work together again.
Best wishes,
Stefanie
A message from the Jones Family
As many of our clients know, John Jones is a family business, started over 40 years ago by my pioneering father. I joined the business in 1986 at 16, my brother Kristian a year later at 15. Our sister Kelly joined us a few years after and for the last 34 years we have given everything we have to the business โ literally blood, sweat and tears. Whilst itโs been incredible, itโs also been very challenging โ running a business in the UK is not easy and in the art world even more so. Closing John Jones has been the hardest decision of all, but we feel strongly that now is the right time for us to take a much needed break and put our own families first.
I am immensely proud that we have pushed the limits in framing, defined the standards in the UK, set ourselves as the ambassadors and market leaders of our industry. The art world is a challenging place, but weโve strived to raise the focus on not only presenting but also protecting art and ensuring its longevity for generations to come.
Weโre grateful to our loyal client base who has given us so many wonderful memories. From young artists at the start of their careers, to some of the biggest names in art; weโve framed for royalty, for rock stars, A-list actors, world leaders and captains of industry. Weโve framed masterpieces, modern art, contemporary work, magna cartas, posters, family photos, football shirts, kimonos, guitar collections, childrenโs drawingsโฆ this list goes on. I can promise you, weโve given every single work the same focused attention and care, right down to the beautiful piece of embroidery that an old lady from Finsbury Park brought in. Weโve been on an incredible journey and met some truly wonderful personalities.
Weโve built a first class team of dedicated experts over the years, from frame designers and art conservators to metal welders, gilders and joiners โ our manufacturing and art teams really are outstanding. Iโve always been so proud to give clients tours of our workshops and show off our staff at work. Itโs been rewarding to see so many go on to pursue their own artist careers or set up businesses within the art world that we continue to work with on a freelance basis. Weโve also built strong working relationships with other art professionals who keep the art world moving - curators, consultants, auction houses, museums, shippers, storage, installers, lighting experts, photographers, printers, suppliers, not to forget art colleges. We all play a part.
Our passion has always been the art. It really has been a lifelong effort and Iโm proud to say that I firmly believe we leave the art world in a much better state than when we first started.
Matt, Kristian and Kelly
