Aaron Horkey deserves an honorable mention. His letter work is unparalleled, IMHO.

Nadine Kanso's photography juxtaposes two sides of life in Beirut; the sectarian and political tensions symbolised by the corresponding graffiti and the carefree and hedonistic party life symbolised by the photos from clubs and bars.

"'HYPERGRAPHIA: the overwhelming urge to write' at BC Gallery [in Berlin] is an art show dedicated to the power of the letter.  Representing the whole spectrum of urban calligraphy, HYPERGRAPHIA is spanning from New York style graffiti tags to Middle Eastern influenced calligraphy, also exhibiting official paperworks from Brazil's pixação movement, for the first time ever in a gallery.  Curated by Maximiliano Ruiz.  Opening night 19/09/13. A recent interview with eL Seed on Complex.com:

"On September 5, Leila Heller Gallery opened "Calligraffiti 1984/2013," an updated version of the original 1984 exhibition with the help of Jeffrey Deitch. Of the artist eL Seed, who contributes two pieces to the show, Deitch told the New York Times, “He is in a very genuine way working in this fusion between a calligraphic technique coming out of Arabic script and an awareness of international graffiti language. When we did the show originally in 1984, there wasn’t anyone like this. [Now] there is this actual fusion of the two traditions.”  Full interview here.

You are, of course, absolutely right!  I would say that 'no one likes a pedant' but I didn't want to post the below artists work in the Arabic Graffiti thread on the basis that I think her work is predominantly based on farsi, rather than arabic, and she's never been a writer.  Those in glasshouses and all that!

Hassan Musa is a great Soudanese artist living in France. He is known for his majestic piece called "The Great American Nude".



Funniest of all, few years later the Americans got their great American nude; do you remember the first picture of Sadam published on the mag ??

I haven't bought anything yet, but maybe next week. I saw the above work in Zephas facebook feed, it's really good. Don't understand why he releases it on a furniture website though.. This is almost the same price as the new Invader kit so if you missed that one, but still want something, this is the one to go for

I saw a youtube film last week where they had interviewed an expert on arabic art. One of the things she said I really liked. -Even if you don't understand what it says, it can be seen as a beautiful piece of abstract art.
