Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by bsimkin on Jun 20, 2019 20:35:07 GMT 1, How is BAST’s only contribution the puppet collab with Paul Insect? Bast along with Faile played a major role in the resurrection of street art in NYC. It seems they were completely absent during the California show. Was this artist or curator decision? Agreed. Feel a lot of decisions were made based on Gastman's personal relationships, rather than what's best representative of the location (NYC). While i normally loathe RETNA, his point about the absence of Lister is poignant, too.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by coller on Jun 20, 2019 22:45:15 GMT 1, you cannot, at least based on the layout of the preview. the shop is on the 6th floor and is essentially part of the exhibit itself. there is no barrier separating the shop from the rest of the exhibit. Thanks......thats a shame as I live in the area and would like to be able to run over there and get drops(without having to buy multiple tickets) 🤷♂️ it may change if they have day-specific drops like in LA, but honestly no idea. i would think they would have some sort of method if they are doing releases that way, like showing your old ticket or something.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by settingson on Jun 21, 2019 17:16:38 GMT 1, I quite like the idea of a couple of these but would there be a problem with the shipping to the UK? I've seen mention a few times of problems with aerosol cans as they aren't accepted by the Royal Mail and I wouldn't fancy it getting to the UK and then being classed as undeliverable.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by inkdigital on Jun 22, 2019 5:46:00 GMT 1, Overall a good show covering the early history of graffiti and street art to the present day, surprisingly, quite a few artists were left out as discussed earlier and some artist that were included seemed out of place, maybe that's what was meant by Beyond the Streets since they probably were never on them, to begin with.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by mmmike on Jun 22, 2019 13:35:51 GMT 1, Looks like starting today there will be a Futura figure for sale. If anyone is going could you please DM or quote this with a price?
I was there yesterday. Had a good time but don't know that I want to pay another $25 to go back for one of these, especially if it is crazy expensive. This is my last day in town so I want to make the most of it.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by beicoblack on Jun 23, 2019 8:39:14 GMT 1, The best thing about their online shop, beside the super fair shipping costs to Europe, is that they tell us now which items are "hot". Loving it!
edit: shame on me... shipping costs are not as crazy as during the LA show.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by sleazus1slord on Jun 23, 2019 12:57:42 GMT 1, Spray cans have never shipped international as far as I know. Even cans that have never been pressurized like the MBW cans have trouble making it thru customs, so consider it a favor that they give refunds. As for everyone questioning who Gastman picked for the show, he's the curator and his opinion is more valid that anyone else's in that giant room imo. Lister is washed and retna is a damn fool.

Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by Wearology on Jun 23, 2019 19:21:04 GMT 1, I spent 7 hours at the show yesterday and had a real good opportunity to study it as an art collector, a fan boy and an angry old 40 something year old guy. On a scale of 1 - 10 the show was a 7 and could have been a 10 if more diverse artists were included. To have a show of this magnitude and not include any works by Banksy, Kaws & Dondi White makes no sense especially since the curator co-produced the Banksy movie "Exit Through The Gift Shop" and has an already well established relationship with him. I wanted to see more works by Haring (1 Jacket, 1 Sketch) Basquiat (1 Triptych Sketch) Hambleton (2 Shadow Men on Canvas) Rammellzee (3 Works on Paper) and less of Shepard Fairey who had an entire wing of Posters & Prints. The artists that absolutely crushed it with the space they were given were Barry McGee, Faile, Aiko and the Bert Krak tattoo parlour that looked like the front of a house in Queens, NY from the 70's. I wrote a more lengthy critique and praise of the show and will share it later tonight with the forum.

It may have made sense to both of them to fold the 30th anniversary show into this show so they wouldn't pull from each other and help with marketing both shows. No Kaws inclusion is very interesting, he was also left out of the LA show but I did expect him to be at this show.
